Fortunately, yes, both sets of parents are VERY supportive (and proud) of us.

That is wonderful.

The reason I asked, is because I was talking to a group of women at a school event and we got on the topic of gay marriage, the woman sitting next to me said, "I would be devastated if my son turned gay , my husband would disown him." I looked at her and said "are you serious? I would be devasted if my son turned republican."  Needless to say the group got dead quiet and I was avoided at the next school function.  I know I was wrong for saying something like that, but damn that kind of shit pisses me off.

You should've said, "Well, it would certainly be your FAULT, wouldn't it?  If only you'd raised him right."  Another great line is, "Yeah, and my understanding is, it's catching!  Keep your husband away from him, or he might turn gay, too!"

With a little education and willingness to be tolerant you might get over that hurdle someday were it to happen.  :o)

My parents are both Republican, but I still love them, and they love me.  Fiscal conservancy is not a bad thing, Jodi.

I know Tom there are  good republicans,  just as there are bad democrats. I was just so frustrated by that statement and in my area, democrats are the minority.  I was going to say something god related but didn't want to have a prayer group in my yard trying to save me. :0)

Ignorance is unfortunate, but rampant.  Our job is to enlighten, to educate, to be the best role models we can be -- which is the crying shame about not being able to be Scout Masters.  That's one reason I'm glad I coach at my school.

Wait a minute, people turn gay? Are we just leaving them out in the
sun too much? Is there a special container that we can put our kids in to
prevent this from happening?!?

Sigh.

I love you, Al -- and I mean that in a completely non-sexual way.

Double wait a minute: Gays can't be Scout Masters?!?! WTF?!?!

(Never mind. I sense that going there would open another Pandora's box of
ignorance here that I'm just not equipped to handle politely.)

All too true.  The Scouts -- being a private group with private funding -- are allowed to discriminate in any way they see fit.  There was a bit of a scuffle about it a few years ago.
