And if you are stupid and ignorant, well, you might just be President of these United States!

It worked for W.

Whoa there pal, The Pet Rock was sheer genius!

LOL Comedy Gold! And people wonder why this thread is still going.

I think that in North America we're just too young as
a culture to appreciate the value of our own history.

I agree completely

Speaking of Tolerance... has anyone watched that new show on HBO, True
Blood
?

So far only a couple of episodes...but it's quite good. Some really cute guys
(and dammit..girls). Vampires. Plenty of sex. Swamps. It's a rollicking good
time. It's all bout vampires "coming out of the coffin" so to speak, to live
amongst normal people. Anna Paquin (sp-Rogue of the X-men films) plays
the lead character, and she can read minds! Neat!

Sweet... so far I am addicted. Thank god Cox (heh heh) cable allows you to
view HBO programs "on demand" after they have aired. I missed the 2nd
episode last night, but I think it should be listed on the "on demand"
channel this week sometime.

The second episode was great, the only thing I don't like is the soft porn aspect, it's hard to watch with kids in the house. I don't watch it until Jackson is in bed, but the fear of him waking up, bothers me.  A lot of HBO shows seem to throw it in for effect. Imply it, we aren't stupid, make the story what draws people in. Do I sound like a prude?

Funny, the ONLY thing I have liked so far is the nudity.  I keep walking up to my TV trying to look down Sookie's shirt...

Indeed. And I may as well repeat something I mentioned to Al in that conversation to the rest of you guys. It's what an old professor of my mine in an American Cultural studies class said: "It's not that the US has too little history. It's that it has had too much in too little time." (somewhat freely quoted, I had that class back in '96)

More Al:
"And as far as stupidity going away?   We can always dream. And as Geoff said, we can concentrate on helping cure ignorance at least.

As far as I'm concerned, ignorance is far worse than stupidity anyway."

I have to say that what's disturbingly worse than "pure" ignorance, is the ignorance which refuses to take in new knowledge and thereby (almost seemingly out of spite) retains its right to remain ignorant.  I mean, let's face it. There are a lot of "ignorant" people out there who quite clearly MUST HAVE come across the relevant information at one point or another, but nevertheless stick with their pigheaded ignorance.  Scares the bejeezes out of me.

Well, here's hoping for an upcoming improvement.

Incidentally... I remember seeing, many years ago (must've been early in W's first term), pictures circulated via e-mail. I believe there were three pics and each pic featured a facial pic of W and a matching facial pic of a chimp. And when I say matching, I mean honest-to-? spot-on likenesses in facial expressions. Haven't seen the pics in an age, but they've left an impression on me, and I've never been able to look at W the same ever since.
Incidentally pt II... I did find the pics somewhat insulting on the whole. I mean the poor intelligent chimps being compared to that... that... "man".

Hadn't heard of it, but you've peaked my interest, Moyer.

-----------

Not at all... I wouldn't want my children watching it either, BUT it is an HBO
show that comes on late at night. I'm hoping to see A LOT more of big beefy
bald muscle creepy vampire man... preferably his backside. Heh heh heh...

The nudity in OZ was the best part of the show. Chris Meloni (be still my
heart) should be given an award!
