I wouldn't mind sharing my wedding thread with George Takei -- as long as he dumped the "opera singer" voice... sigh...

I am not a big trekker but were the flower colors worn by Sulu and Chekov representing the color tunic each wore?  So if Spock were there his flower would be blue?

Joakim: I kept hearing bagpipes even when there weren't any

That's something about living where I do, that drives me crazy, they don't value anything old. They are horrible about perserving historical buildings. Our communities are all so generic, they have almost all chain stores , so each town looks like the other.

George Takei and Brad Altman together 21 years, I get sad thinking about how during that time they had to hide their relationship. Meanwhile we as a country let people like Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee parade theirs. :0P

Seriously when are people going to stop being so stupid.

Never. But we can always hope they will learn to be more kind and understanding, and we can draw on the idea that ignorance is cured by discussion and education.  Tolerance is fostered by knowledge.  Stupidity cannot be cured, ignorance can.  And stupidity, not ignorance, is our default setting --- as the pet rock would likely exemplify.

No, Geoff. If that had been the case, they both would have been wearing
yellow-green flowers that looked gold on screen.

(And if that level of geekiness doesn't draw John Mietus and Greg Kirkman
into this thread I don't know what will.)

That's sad. There's definitely something to be said for old stuff! :)

More Jodi:

I think that's not likely to occur anytime soon. The stupidity gene seems to be a wide spread genetic defect in the human species to be sure.

But, as Geoff pointed out, we can at least get through some thick layers of ignorance in certain cases and make the world a wee bit better at the very least.

Funny that you and I had a conversation about historical preservation not
that long ago, Joakim; I think that in North America we're just too young as
a culture to appreciate the value of our own history.

And as far as stupidity going away?   We can always dream. And as Geoff
said, we can concentrate on helping cure ignorance at least.

As far as I'm concerned, ignorance is far worse than stupidity anyway.

And if you are stupid and ignorant, well, you might just be President of these United States!
