Ok, been very little on-line over the last couple of days, so time to play some catch up on the neverending (I sure hope) thread.

Al wrote:
"Yet none of my gay friends have ever tried to pick me up. None of their friends who have just met me and know nothing about my orientation or marital status have ever tried to pick me up. It's a little insulting."

Aw, come on, Al. You've showed pictures of the wifey. Complaints about not getting hit on more is just plain greedy.  ;)

Tom F. wrote (on the workings on gaydar):
"Something about slot-A in tab-B -- or, wait, tab-B and tab-B -- no, no, maybe tab-B in vertical slot-C...

Hold on, I have the manual upstairs someplace...!"

And somehow I'm disappointed. I had envisioned it as similar to the spider sense. With wavey lines in the air and all.

Incidentally, I don't think I have a particularly well tuned gaydar of any kind, but probably mostly because I can't really see what the big bother would be. If some one is gay and wants me to know about it, I'm sure they'll let me know, and in between I don't normally treat homosexual people any different than heterosexual people, so...

Al also (or is that Al-so?) wrote:
"By the way, thank you guys for all dancing around the 'Am I that ugly?' part of my post there.

Much appreciated."

And obviously I couldn't stop myself from dancing right into it above... though in a rather cheerful manner I'd like to add in my defense.

Tom F. also wrote:
"Another of Tom's dumb rants:  Stage Right and Stage Left are actor's designations.  In other words, stage right is to the actor's right as s/he is facing the audience -- stage left is to the actor's left.

It drives me crazy when a character says, 'exit, stage left' and then goes off on the left side of the screen (or the stage).  That would be, 'exit, HOUSE left...'

How anal retentive is THAT?"

Interesting, I was actually thinking about that particular phrase the other day (reminded by Rush's live album I believe) and thinking briefly about whose left that'd be.  As for the "anal retentive"-ness... I'd say not so much. I think it's fair to try to get people to use words and terminology correctly. Otherwise what the heck's the point of having the phrase in the first place? Could be replaced by "just get your butt off stage somehow" otherwise, is my point.

More Tom:
"Are you kidding!?!?  Even as a kid, I knew Bugs was gay.  He cross-dresses in almost every cartoon, and clearly enjoys it!!"

O but cross-dressing, I understand it, does not equate homosexuality. And as a guy who's worn dresses or skirts on a few occasions (mostly on stage I'd hasten to add), I'd argue that case strongly.

Geoff wrote:

You don't say. I missed the whole durn thing. :(

"Okay... I may have to break down and join this 'Facebook' this weekend. But I swear I'm not joining any more social networking sites after this!"

Ok, if I'm not getting a friend's request, I'll be mighty peeved then. Cause it's not like I'm hard to locate. After all, there can be only one, and so there is. :)

"Edinburgh looked really pretty, does anyone there wear kilts?  I don't know what it is about a guy in a kilt, but I think it is very sexy."

Ah, Hodi, you set me off on a tangent. As an anglophile with a GREAT love for things Celtic and Scottish, my one visit to Edinburgh (3-4 days back in '96) was a wonderful thing. I kept hearing bagpipes even when there weren't any, in a sort of a "prodigal son returneth" sentimental moment. Anyways, I was looking around to possibly getting myself a kilt. I found some fairly cheap ones for ?30 each (and later learned that those were women's kilt so I'm VERY happy I didn't buy one), and couldn't understand why the kilts in the kilt shops seemed to start at ?150 (a wee bit over my budget). Anyway, crazy bugger that I am, I went into one of the shops with my girlfriend at the time and asked if I could try a kilt. Now, it should be said that I could really tell that the sales person saw that I wouldn't be buying (given prices and all), but he was a good sport, looked me over and said, "yuir a size (and I forget which size)" and handed me a kilt. That's incidentally when I understood what the difference what. The bloody thing was so heavy I almost dropped it to the floor. But I did try it out, and man o MAN did I feel great doing that.   Bagpipes, even when none were playing, I tell ya!

Tom wrote:
"Seriously, they're very good to me, and I feel very appreciated (except in salary...).  So I follow that with -- it's my last year there.  Last year was going to be my last year, but with them sending us to Scotland, I decided it would be rude to not stay another.  Initially, I intended to only be there a couple of years, taking time off from the road -- nine years later, I'm still there.  It's time."

Well, I can't help feeling that it's the school system's loss, and a great one at that. It seems people like you are important to save future generations (or perhaps us from future generations, depending on the levels of my misanthropic tendencies at the time).
Naturally, you need to do what's right for YOU. But clearly you shouldn't discount that you have qualities not only on stage (well, a teacher friend of mine who dabbles in amateur theatre still says I'd be good at teaching what with my being a li'l stage monkey at heart, her argument being that it's roughly the same thing).

And Talley.... those were some good pics there.

Yay! Funny to see George Takei and phase two of his career. He's more in
demand than ever.
