So George Takei said on Howard today that Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols are going to be the best man and maitron of honor, respectively, at his wedding to Brad. And of course we know Shatner's not invited! But that does raise an intriguing question--did Nimoy get an invite, and will he come?

It's been interesting reading the comments on the forum of my local paper regarding the Ellen and Portia wedding. It amazes me how many people remain so closed minded towards this in this day and age.

Warning...progressive thinkers may be offended....

I'm sorry, your show your open mindedness in the same fashion as the girl who dated the black cop on Hill Street Blues. If you remember what he said to the girl after he had been on display, that is what I want to say to you now. Tom and Eric are not spokespersons for our open-mindedness, they are two people getting married in a day and age when there are dangerous "close-minded" people walking around, but that is not the word, the worst crap you can find on the planet are obviously present on that site, the kind of people nobody wants to meet even in hell. If you want to use this couple as role models for such a task, why don't you ask them first.

Where did Brian use Tom and Eric (or anyone else) to display his "openmindedness."  Seriously.  I missed that.  Can you point me to a quote or statement?  Because I assume, if you are responding to his statement, you have something to back up your assertion.

It's in the statement

The progressive thinkers may be offended alright, but if you read what's on that site it looks like the intended targets are not thinkers, but homosexual people. I can go and hug a black guy, to show that I'm not a racist, but then I am talking to the racist, not the black guy, and the black guy is then in their focus. Why should a black guy be in such a situation? And here a wedding gets a link to what I beleive is a site about Ellen Degenernes, just because,  not dispite of some unlucky events, but beacuse a Christian version of Al-Qaida seems to have a gathering there.

Yes, by the caveman mentality of those speaking out against the DeGenerer/Rossi marriage. I posted that link as an example as to how so may people are still unaccepting of gay marriage. Nothing more than that. To think that I was "using" Tom and Eric is so far out of line that it's not even remotely close to amusing.  I thought mindreading was frowned against here.

Now excuse me.....I have to go hug a black guy.

Where did Brian say, or imply, that he was using Tom and Eric's marriage as his way of showing he was open minded?  Where is that in his statement?  He linked to an article involving the marriage of two very well known gay celebrities.  If anything his comments were directed to gay marriage in general, in this specific case to the marriage of DeGeneres and Di Rossi, not Tom and Eric, and the reactions of the people responding to that article.  How could you possibly draw the inference that Brian was using Tom and Eric as a way to show his progressiveness?  He posted it in this thread because this thread has evolved into a conversation of various online friends, not only about Tom and Eric, but also about gay rights issues, about Marriage in general and, perhaps most disturbingly, Hagerman's desire to bone albinos.

How nice to post that in a forum thread celebrating a gay marriage.
