Six years and two children later she's as beautiful as she was the day I married her!

JBForum is unique for me in this. There is no where else on the web that I
feel as comfortable debating issues as meaty as politics and religion, and
knowing that even as I disagree with someone they will still chat with me on
other topics and threadlines as well...thisi is the best forums on the web.

Agreed, agreed, agreed! Thank you, John for that!

Hey! Where else could I offend so many people with such little effort?

"Smartest thing I ever did was to ask my best friend to marry me"
"Same here"
Add me to this chorus as well.

And in the spirit of debate noted above, I'm going to take issue with the following statement:
Smartest thing I ever did was to ask my best friend to marry me.
Personally, I think that's about the worst thing two people can do! My best friend Laura and I tried being a couple for several years--and it was mostly a positive experience. But at some point I think we both realized that what we were really doing was trying to elevate copulation--a biological imperative--into something far more deep and profound and binding that it actually is. We've long since split up as a couple, yet our friendship is 1,000 times stronger than ever. So I would strongly suggest you bang people you've got moderate affection for, but reserve your closest friendships for those people whose importance to you transcends the physical. Or, to put that in the parlance of a beloved 80s song, "I get my kicks above the wasteline, Sunshine!"

Matt -- it wasn't planned, believe me. We were on vacation on Skyline Drive in Virginia and we'd hiked up the side of the mountain. There, on a rock outcropping overlooking the Shenandoah Valley, drinking red wine from my Camelbak, the whole thing just suddenly overtook me. I popped the question before I had even given myself a chance to talk myself out of it.
It's all in the moment, Matt. But what's right is right, you know? I said before, I knew Eric was "the one" when we first met.
I'd had my fill of meaningless sexual encounters -- and believe me, I had plenty -- but all that does is fulfill the needs of the body. Not the spirit. I love him like I've never loved anyone. I say, go for it!!!

I have never understood the whole "offended" by your statements thing...It seems to that most people who spout off about your statements do so on other sites. That for me automatically lessons them in my opinion as I know that if I disagree, i can always tell you so, and get an explanation or maybe not from you. You always seem willing to explain your views, so...
Your views may sometimes paint you as cantankerous, but mine often make me appear persnikitey so I think we are even.
