John,
I came across this on ebay. What's the history? Was it a pitch for Wonder Woman?

JB,
Were a lot of the published sketches in The Art of John Byrne from that sketchbook?

I like it. Looks like the Valkyries that showed up with Reed Richards's
father in FF.
Sucks that it is stolen goods, though.

Was the sketchbook pretty full?
I just don't understand some people.

Proof at how good a sword & sorcery type book would be if drawn by JB, if he were ever inclined to pursue that genre.

If my memory is correct, a Byrne sketchbook surfaced on the last day of the '06 San Diego Comic-Con. The pages were sold to various collectors. It contained a lot of sketches that were published in The Art of John Byrne.
Knowing the sketchbook was stolen puts it in a different light.

^ Man, that's about "the cherry on the cake" with regards to the SDCC '06 list of stolen goods:
Neal Adams and his son got ripped off (scroll down for 2006 entry)
And Stan Sakai had his cash box ripped off too.

with 100,000 to 150,000 people going to SDCC these days, there are bound to be a few theives.
MR BYRNE ---
Isn't there something you can do to stop the sale of that page through eBay's VERO program? As the original artist you should be able to atest to the "theft" -- it doesn;t matter that this owner may have purchased it legitmately at a convention or privately -- stolen property is still stolen and there should be some sort of recourse.

I can sympathize somewhat with JB on the art theft situation. Back in the mid 1990s when I was attending the Otakon convention back when they started out at State College, Pennsylvania, I had a notebook full of short synopsises and character essays for a variety of concepts that I was putting together at the time. On the last day, as I was packing up for the trip home, it went missing. I know that only the cleaning crew went through the room at that time so I wonder if someone might've swiped that notebook. From time to time, it crossed my mind that somewhere, someone might be holding on to the notebook for some purposes I can't exactly pin down. Perhaps, if I were to have gone pro in the comicbook field, this would've popped up on Ebay in much the same way that the sketchbook page from JB did.
For the above reason, I've since chosen to make copies of the original documents to keep in electronic storage and to leave all original pages in a file cabinet or two at home...
