I haven't read his avengers, unfortunately (well, another run to look for)
His Captain America is terrific, and the best depiction of Batroc (among other highlights in this short run).

ACTION COMICS and STARMAN (The only Starman I ever enjoyed reading).

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. My favorite run after the legendary one by Lee/Ditko/Romita, Sr.

CAPTAIN AMERICA with JB.

I'm sorry his run on ACTION COMICS was ruined by the "eternal crossover"... His stories were always part of something bigger, and I couldn't enjoy them like they were simply the "Roger Stern stories".

Amazing Spider-Man, I'm a sucker for The Hobgoblin.

Avengers.

I really liked his JLA Classified story a lot. It just felt like it was how the JLA should be.

Amazing Spider-Man. I used to own the whole run and it disappeared over 20 years ago. I really really want TPB reprints.

The Avengers run gets docked a notch because I was never that thrilled with the line-up during those years. (Starfox? Hercules? "Captain Marvel"? Meh.)

I liked the Stern Avengers run too.  I also enjoyed the Milgrom/Sinnott art !  Everyone (the heroes) was smiling back then in the 80's !

I gotta say that Stern's Avengers was great, ESPECIALLY the Masters of Evil storyline.

Dear God, they don't write them like that anymore!

I think I've liked every run he's ever done.  It would be like picking my favorite child...

I can't pick one single run so I'll go with my favourites:

  • The Avengers
  • Amazing Spider-Man
  • Action Comics/Superman
  • Starman
  • Captain America

I have to admit that I'm bad at pin-pointing what I've read of Stern all in all. Too few paperbacks around (IMHO) though I've probably read more than my fair share in Swedish translation way back when – that would most likely include most of his Spider-Man material and his Hulk material, both of which I wouldn't mind re-reading but in English. In particular the Hulk since that is durring the Buscema era (unless I'm mistaken) and I want that getting the Essential treatment pronto!
The Spider-Man stuff would also be nice. I was a huge fan of the Hobgoblin when he first appeared.

Other than that, I love his and JB's Cap run.
And I'd very much like to read both his Strange and Avengers run since they keep being mentioned.

Stern's Spider-Man is just too good, but I gotta go with The Avengers.  What Stern and Byrne did with Namor changed that character for me forever.  And the Masters of Evil/Zeus one-two punch is impossible to resist.
