Much has been given in the way of opinion, debate and controversy on the influence of such giants as Jack Kirby and Neal Adams.

Jim Steranko however appears to be, as time goes on, more and more relegated to a footnote.  It is amazing to see what was once a HUGE impact on the comics arena.

I bring this up because last year, I believe it was Arthur Adams, did an homage to Steranko's Giant Hulk #1 in an issue of The Incredible Hercules and it seems that nobody really noticed or cared.

I personally have not seen a huge influence of Steranko on Byrne, but that does not mean it may not be there.  Thoughts?

Steranko is awesome!, there were several homages to him in the current run of Captain America

He is not Kirby or Eisner, however he is one of the few deserving to be mentioned in the same breath.

I've always liked and admired Steranko's work, but like Neal Adams, I was surprised to find out how relatively little comic work he has done--at least compared to the likes of Kirby and Byrne.

I like Steranko's work. It IS oddly jarring though to read Captain America in order and suddenly go from Kirby to the much different Steranko style. Good stuff once you get used to it though.

I'm of the opinion that Steranko at his best was as good or better than anyone in the history of comics. His stuff on Captain America, for example, is simply mind-blowing. I know at one point, he was held in incredibly high esteem by fans and artists alike.

But the issue with him, like Robert said, is that his body of work is so small compared to guys like Kirby, Ditko, etc. I suspect that is why he isn't as fondly remembered, as opposed to any issues with the actual quality of his work.

Why was the body of work so small?  He is still around almost 40 years later but nothing in several decades...

I've always enjoyed his work on Nick Fury. He is also quite the character to meet in person.
