Hi.
Everytime I take a trip to the comic shop, I randomly browse throught lots of books and, in this last several years, fewer and fewer NEW artists have grasped my attention... a sign of times.
Fortunately not all is lost, and from time to time there comes an artist that brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. Currently there are a few artists that make me buy a comics regardless of the writer or title (yeah, I'm one those guys that buys comics because of the artist...), and they are, in no particular order:
- Goran Parlov - I love his work in Punisher! His art seems a little "loose" at first, but the details he puts are great! Anatomy might be a little exagerated here and there but composition, storytelling and sheer craftsmanship put him up there in my list!
- Eric Canete - Mind you I'm not a big fan of cartoony characters, I like Madureira, can live with some stuff Bachalo does, but this guys is great! The movement he puts in his drawings is amazing! And I love his "freehand" architecture...
- Olivier Coipel - Classic. Perfect anatomy, good storytelling. The one of the bunch who could fit in Marvel in the 70's.
- Eduardo Risso - Love his noir style! Fits in 100 bullets like a glove. Storytelling and composition are amazing! His treatment of environments and shadows is also great.
There are a couple of other good artists but this are the ones that really make me go all hmmmm....
So anyone else has a young gun that wants to share?
see ya!

Daniel Acuña. His work depends a lot on coloring, but I think he's one of the few who knows how to use modern colors

Ivan Reis on Green Lantern is the one I've got my eye on. I first noticed him a few years back on an Avengers annual and predicted he would go places.
He's getting a lot of notice on GL now.
Copiel sure has come a long way from his LSH days hasn't he?

I like Acuna on covers but so so much on interiors. Didn't like his recent Flash run at all (can 3 issues be called a run?)

None of those are new artists Armindo!! I like Eric Canette and Parlov. They can draw anything.

Well, when I say new I probably mean recent or non-estabelished. Artists that popped up in the last 5 years or so. I don't follow all their works so, all of them came to my attention in the last couple of years...

Same here with Ivan Reis... veru nice! Althought it seems a little too close to Alan Davis in some pages.

Another vote for Ivan Reis!
Also Criag Rousseau of Impulse, the (now) Image series Perhapanauts and a recent X-Men First Class fill-in is a really fun, classic comic book artist.
