I have a Juliet Jones strip by Stan Drake, an Archie by Dan DeCarlo and a giant Johnny Hazard Sunday (18 by 26 inches) by Frank Robbins. Nice stuff.

Like any original art, it depends what it is, Wilson. Who the artist is, the fame of the strip, the age, all impact the price, just like original comic pages. Original strips can be found mostly with dealers, as most comic strip artists don't usually show up at comic cons with artwork for sale.

I see comic strips pop up on eBay occasionally, but for some reason I think I'd be more wary of buying them off there than I would original comic pages.

Don't own any original strips myself, but if I had the money I'd go buy a Phantom or Dick Tracy.

Thanks, Dave.

Paul Ryan draws the Phantom and sell the comic strips on his website.

I have a batch of Oddville strips by Jay Stephens featuring Jetcat.
Got to meet Jay by accident when I bought them in Toronto. The store that
sells them asked if I wanted them to be signed. I was confused and said
"how?". The guy said "well, he's right there".
Turned me into a complete goober, as I'm a hugh fan of his cartooning
work!
What are the odds!

My one and only piece of original art is from a comic strip, by the best of the best, Joe Kubert.

That first panel has a Gil Kane feel.

I hate Brian Talley and his fancy Doonesbury strip. I say that with much jealousy.

Good point, Wilson. I had the thought after I posted that, that if you can find a comic guy who has done some strip work, you can catch them selling at shows. Alex Saviuk usually brings lots of Spider-Man strips with him. Tom Batiuk is usually at MOC, and I think he does bring some "Funky" originals with him to sell.

I once got a "Rose is Rose" daily that the artist had donated for a charity auction. The crowd was not hip to original art, and I got it for a song. I didn't feel too bad though, because the charity was a community orchestra, not something too heartbreaking. If it had been auctioned at say, MOC, for the Ronald McDonald House charity, or the March of Dimes, it probably would have gone for much more, especially to a crowd that knew what the heck it was. Of course, as JB has pointed out after being the auctioneer there for years, there's no telling what people will go for. An original art piece that's one-of-a-kind will often be virtually ignored, in favor of some "hot" limited edition toy, or signed and numbered comic, "limited" to only 10,000!

I own a number of original strips but some of my favorites are:

1/2 Superman strips by John Sikela 9/4/42 (they used to tear strips in
half before throwing them in the garbage so no one else could reprint
the strip)

Buck Rogers Daily by Dick Calkins from 1945

Rip Kirby by Alex Raymond 2/27/54 (published on my birthday 14 years
before I was born)

I also have a number of other strips up in my
CAF Gallery

and Birthday Strips
