JB, are they fighting atop the Daily Planet? The steel girders that the Thing
and Superman are standing on (amidst the rubble) look like they could be
the remains of some of the giant letters that spell out DAILY PLANET...(esp.
the P and the A). Or maybe I'm just seeing things...

••

Not on top, but that is indeed the remains of the Daily Planet globe. I
figured, if this fight was in New York, and Reed had access to his lab, he
could whip up some artificial kryptonite in about eight seconds, and that
would be it for Superman. So, to give Clark a chance, I set the fight in
Metropolis. There it would take Reed about 12 seconds. . .

This might be a dumb question, but how would Reed know that Superman has a weakness to Kryptonite?

If they live in the same world, he'd know the way everyone knows. If the FF
are "crossing over" from the MU, same thing.

I imagine he doesn't even need to know of Superman's weakness for kryptonite. He'd just go "Hm. Solar powered, you say? So if his cells turn the sun's rays into fuel, then by jamming certain wavelengths , we can turn his power off". Then he'd invent a kryptonite ray.

It's like I keep saying:  with some characters the tricky part is finding reasons why a fight lasts more than 10 seconds.
