Guess we can be glad this all happened pre-internet. Not only would you
have know about it months in advance (with copious spoilers, of course),
those who didn't would race to dissect my "continuity error" and then take
credit for compelling me to "fix" it later!

Amazing issue!

The sad thing is, I was exposed to Guardian's "resurrection" in its later form, when the outlandish story became a genuine reason to bring him back. I thought it was bizarre and implausible, to say the least. There was no way that this scenario could be true. After all, we saw limbs blown off, a burning skull, and a pile of ashes.

It wasn't until later that I read this issue (and the next three) and was blown away by the cleverness of the ruse. Brilliant.

JB, I never noticed before that Bill Mantlo's name is in the credits for this issue.  What was his role here?  Did he have any input into the plotting leading up to his first issue as writer?

Great issue!  I, too, was pleased to see the return of Guardian.

Any reason for the change to "North-Star"?  I just noticed this for the first time.

I bought into the return of Guardian hook, line, and sinker.

I like the rendering of Box in this issue too.

JB,  around the creation of what issue did you know you were moving to The Incredible Hulk?

All I can say is--you're a cruel man JB!

I was completely suckered by this issue too, even though I saw Mac's smoldering corpse in AF #12.

Several months. Maybe six or so.

Well I was fooled 100% as well...the part man, part super-suit-machine seemed like such a fun twist for a character that was the "plainest" super-power of the group.  Not that I minded that at all.

It did seem a little over the top (aliens, teleportation, time travel) but I guess we all suspend our disbelief for the sake of enjoying a good story. I was sad to see the Alpha flight ride end.

Guardian returning was a head scratcher and I was entertained by the revelation.

Absolutely loved this one. But I did have a spoiler, in the form of the guy running my LCS. He chastised me for believing this was possible, because the Kree would have long ago destroyed any lifeform living on any moon in the solar system. then he went on to lecture me how the Kree came to earth, etc.

Still I found myself hoping. And despite the truth, the best was yet to come...

SPOILER:

I know I've mentioned this before, but when I read "The Return of Omega Flight" and the bottom of the last page, and thought about him being half-machine, I figured out exactly who Guardian was.

Had that blurb not been at the bottom of the page, though, I'd never have thought of it.

Probably one of my favorite issues, ever.
