Those are some of the most egregious examples of swipes ever.

Martin, I know that he had defended the original cover swipe done by Mack (and as a huge Mack fan I'm really disappointed by the number of swipes in the issue), but where does Bendis call the newsarama posters "a mob of stupid people giving him shit for no reason"? I didn't find it in the pages you linked to; did I miss it?

On his own board *shivers*. He's probably gonna delete it anyway. Oh and all those fans are calling Mack an artistic genius as well.

I flipped through the issue yesterday and I'm pretty sure the last pages are an Alan Davis montage. But it's "okay" cause Mack posted this super long nonsensical explanation that still credited absolutely no one. Apparently you were MEANT to guess the HOMAGES because it's a Skrull themed issue. Nevermind that Hugues comic belongs to DC and not Marvel.

If you ask me, this whole incident just reaffirms my conviction that Marvel's being run by a bunch of fanzine making posers.

And if you check the whole thread, some of those panels are even reused up to 3 times. That surprised face shot of rainmaker gets milked for 3 panels containing absolutely NOTHING but that drawing.

This wasn't done by a child, this was done by a respected pro on a top book, with a top page rate probably, disgusting. What a joke. Bendis shouldn't even be allowed the right to cast judgement on anything anymore.

I didn't say he plagiarized. I just found that his better JLA stories to be
largely derivitive of stories I'd read before. I think the Tomorrow Woman
was an intentional homage to the Red Tornado story, just as his Star
Conqueror was an obvious riff/homage of Starro but both seemed to be
lacking as that was all they were. They were at best, average stories. If a
writer is held up being a creative genius, then I'm going to tailor my
criticism to that higher standard. And yes the ending of his Martian arc is
pretty much the same solution the FF came up with dealing with the
Skrulls even if the rest of the story doesn't echo it. I'd never noticed it
before it was brought up here since his stuff reminded me more of riffing
on 60's JLA. But, it is there . Otherwise, everytime I read a story during his
run that I actually thought was a good straight forward character driven
story and not just overwritten bordering on parody, it turned out to be
written by Marks Millar or Waid such as the Atom focused issues.

His Doom Patrol was very creative and gets marks for aiming at bringing
an intellectual vibe. But, from the storytelling and massively bad retcons
and damage it did to the original characters, I find it mostly dreck that
would have been better served if he worked with his own characters ala
Watchmen.

Other than Animal Man which I loved, I've gotten to the point I just ignore
his work. If it's not deconstructing the characters, it's wink-wink, nudge-
nudge. His handling of the Batmen of the World recently is a good
example as the cynical post-modern take on superheroes that seem to be
an undercurrent to so much of his work. I just don't try to read his stuff
anymore.

Morrison is like a irresponsible teenager being given the keys to his dad's brand new buick which he then wrecks after getting smashed.

Ed, sorry for misconstruing your post, then. And Martin, I'll have to check the thread at Bendis' own board, thanks for telling me where to find it. I usually respect the man and find him very level in his opinions, but I'm neither impressed or happy with the quality of the latest Avengers issue.

Yeah, wth?  That explanation doesn't fly at all.

This would all be pretty funny if it weren't so not funny.

I'm just curious, what has Bendis done to make you hate him as a human being?

Way to truncate the sentence so it only says what people want to pick up on. I said, specifically, "Every time I read anything he's (Bendis) has written, I hate him as a human being."

And I should probably say, "Oh, I'm sure he's a great dude, got a hot wife and nice-looking kids and a nice home, and he's successful...good for him. More power to him. I just don't like his work."

But no...when I read his work, I hate him irrationally, like I hate the flu, and "American Idol", and those choky smoker's voices on women that make them sound like they're about to cough up a ovary. I hate Bendis as the brand name behind some bullshit work in superhero comics. Let loose the hounds on that guy.

Chad, have you ever read Bendis' own stuff, like Jinx or Goldfish?  I suspect you might like that stuff more.

I don't like any of his superhero work that I can think of, but the crime stuff is not bad.

And I could see why some people could see his dismissal of superhero costumes as disdain for costumes, but the man's work on Superman, Batman (and let's put the Killing Joke aside, here, it was twenty years ago), Flex Mentallo, JLA, The Doom Patrol (which the series' original creator praised for being closest to his vision of the team), and X-Men

Let's also put The Killing Joke aside in a Morrison discussion, since it was written by Alan Moore.

I'm just sayin'....

I wanted to read TORSO too. I suspect Bendis working on a kind of HIS KIND OF WOMAN detective melodrama would work well, as he has the rhythm (if not the smarts) of Howard Hawk's staccato speech patterns. So if Bendis was continuing the adventures of the 87th Precinct in comic book form, I could see it working.

But who the hell really enjoys his superhero stuff unless you're of the mindset that it's worth your hard-earned cash to see superheroes do mundane shit like talk on cell phones and jabber on about their feelings. Frankly I feel physically ill knowing people love their superheroes to be as trite and petty and superficial as they themselves are.
