"I can tell you that there have been no past FX's."
-----
Ooh, now there's something I hadn't even considered yet. The FX powers
appear to be largely a product of the imagination. Given Tom's background,
his imagination is primarily fueled by his exposure to movies and TV. Hence
rocket ships and bionic arms will be his weapons of choice.
But what would happen if someone from a different culture received these
powers? How would the FX force manifest in someone who had no
knowledge of fighter jets or tanks?
Hmm...

Ray, that's an interesting idea. Someone with the imagination not from TV and movies, but from traditional books... could be a bad guy...
As for my copies,... well... just one left when I picked it, so I have reordered another one. My comic shop sold out, but I don't know how many copies they ordered...
And I have reserved 2 copies... I still have one....

So you want to see more Wayneiverse (or is that WOniverse?) titles on the market as well, Don? :)
Here's hoping Wayne never stops. Heck I wouldn't mind it if he ended up plotting a scripting a few title with not only JB but other artists as well. I sure would like to see what other creative working constellations involving WO could produce (though I sure as heck hope JB sticks with the FX title for however long that goes on... and I wouldn't cry if he ended up doing other work with Wayne either).

The fact that FX's superpower so readily lends itself to a What If type story like that and without the feeling of been there done that, suggests to me that WO actually struck imagination gold when he came up with the powers. While, as I've said elsewhere, I'm no fan of the "originality cult", I do believe FX's powers do represent something quite original, surely something I can't remember having come across myself before, and while still being pretty basic (in a good sense). Still, it wouldn't matter if it wasn't original either, the proof of quality is definitely in the pudding, and still very much looking forward to reading it in colour.

I went to my LCS to pick up my comics today - I usually go once a month, but sometimes twice - and lo and behold, they didn't get FX. I ordered it in plenty of time, so the guy at the store checked the computer and they did order it but Diamond didn't send any copies to the store. I'm hoping they get some copies in next week, but I am not holding my breath.
First Diamond drops a series I was reading - Honor Brigade, a six-issue mini - between issues 5 and 6 (and are apparently going to be distributing #6 after all, but I don't know when ) after not sending the stores any copies of #1 of that series when orders for it were placed when it first came out, and now this....

Just settling in after a long journey to Vancouver complete with my baggage going MIA until the day before I was scheduled to return. The flight there was made more managable by being able to read the finished product of FX #1. I'm looking forward to the upcoming 5 issues. Nice work guys!

Nice comicbook, Wayne. I resisted the urge to fold it up and stick it in my back pocket because it was $4 and is on such stiff paper, but it feels like an old school comic that should be printed on cheap newsprint and carried that way while you ride your bike home from the 7-11.

Thanks, Dave and everyone else. Yeah, that $4 seems to be a bit of a
sticking point in some of the reviews I've read. I don't know if IDW can do
anything about it but if we do another series, I'll ask about newsprint and a
cheaper cover price.

To be honest, I was not expecting much. A first time writer and an art robot that didn't seem enthused much in the interview.
But...
I am pleasantly surprised. First off, it is a VERY nice package. I like the quality and pages and I'll pay the $3.99 for a nice presentation.
Second, the story is fun and natural. It's not Frank Miller amazing, but it harkens back to a simpler, more fun, age.
Third, the art is nice. This IS JB's forum but to be frank, I was not that impressed with the pencils previewed earlier. I didn't see anything techincall wrong with them, but I just didn't get that 'exciting energy' I often get with Byrne's work. I don't tend to like apes in comics, but this one went well.
Fourth - I really like the fact there are no ads until the end of the issue. It makes for a much nicer flow for reading.
One question - Was the 24th (last) page an add-on from the original commission? It seems like the book could have ended on page 23 if it were a one-shot (which, if I recall it was until JB agreed to do 6 issues). Was page 24 done after the original issue when it was decided to do a whole miniseries? Either way, it's a great cliff-hanger!
Nice job!

Newsprint? I LOVE newsprint! That would be totally cool, IMO. When I was a kid, I would read comics outside as much as I would in the house. If I read comics outside these days, I create areas on the glossy pages where my fingers sweat and my finger-pads remove the ink. Not an issue with ye olde newsprint!
Wayne was kind enough to send me a copy of FX, so I finally got to see the finished product today. (You are the best, Boss!) Melissa is taking it to school tomorrow to show the teachers and kids. She is almost as excited about this as I am!

Did I mention the smell of the paper and the ink?
This is why I love comics in their normal form... printed!

I dodged this thread until I could get my hands on the book. Boy, did I enjoy it! Great job Wayne, JB and Greg! You know, it's the first comic I picked up in quite a while, that I said "I can let my daughter read this."
Well done and Wayne congrats on seeing your dream realized. It must be an amazing feeling.
