No, please! No more retcons!
I've always hated Batman's tibet retcon.
For Batman's origin, what appealed to me was that he was mostly self-taught. All the stuff added later about him travelling around and learnings things in far off lands, while interesting, kind of takes something away from what makes Batman Batman.
I always remember a certain Byrne/Aparo panel from UNTOLD LEGENDS OF THE BATMAN # 1 which shows Bruce Wayne working out as a lad in what looks like a basement gym. The caption which was Batman's musings about those days read: "I was a pre-adolescent boy, impatient to be a man and the work was hard, but I welcomed it. I needed it"

Not the Batman I grew up with! He'd traveled the world, studying with all
those who were already masters of the arts and sciences he felt he needed.

Yeah, the Batman origin I always liked was the "world traveler" version. If they retconned it today, young Bruce Wayne would just have spent years surfing the internet and reading wikipedia to gain all his knowledge and training...

How could a young Bruce Wayne "self teach" himself fighting, science, and detective work? He had to learn these things from others. He's self taught only in the sense that he went out into the world to study and become an expert in those fields.

There was a recent story in the Epic Anthology about the Ancient One's youth, actually, he appeared as the Spirit Leopard.

I liked Batman Begins insomuch as it took seriously its subject matter and even makes you think a little as to what is wrong with vigilantism. (The ninja sequences were cool too by the way).
I don't think I cared for the way his origin was handled though. Too many people knew who Bruce Wayne was and this is not conducive to having a secret identity later on. Thomas Wayne's killer was caught by the police no less and this is totally wrong for the character's motivations. The fuel for Batman's obsession is (and should be) that his parent's killer is out there somewhere and hasn't been caught.

His motivation should be that no one should have to go through what he
went through as a child. Joe Chill, the individual, is not as important as what
he represents.
