Superman shouldn't have died? The story where he died wasn't great but the funeral and the return were both really good stories. I would only have had a problem if they had done it permanently.

When you have a plan to ressurect a character before you kill them off then in a way it's just a long version of a cliffhanger ending from the silver age. Last panel (usually of a chapter, not the book come to think of it) the character is revealed to be dead, some mourning happens and finally the hero comes back to life, explains (usually) how he didn't actually die and beats the villain who 'killed' him.

I am a big proponent of comic book deaths being permanent, with Phoenix being the only exception. I think any other character that's killed only to be brought back shouldn't have been killed off in the first place.

I remember reading in Marvel Zombies, Galactus was eaten by them, so there's the death of Galactus for you. I thought it was one of the dumber ideas I've seen.
