I read Silverblade a few years ago, and found that Colan’s pencils were more vague and loose than I prefer. Sometime it’s hard to tell where the edges of objects or facial features are. It’s like he sketched things in roughly and assumed the inker would figure out the rest, while the inker assumed the pencils were already complete.

I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but am still shocked by what some people post in threads as examples of good comic book artwork!

It's shocking isn't it Wallace !  I am thankful for variety, as I am sure you are and the rest of the JBF.  Each of us has an eye for what is beautiful or what works.  That's the fun thing about art!

I havent' kept up on Colan's work in a significant way Felicity.  My impression is that his earlier stuff was much tighter than in his later years.  It also helps when he has the right inker working on his stuff.  In my mind, Tom Palmer was to Gene Colan what Joe Sinnot was to Jack Kirby!

Young Avengers is great stuff!  I can't say enough good things about Allan Heinberg's writing and Jim Cheung's artwork!  These two gentlemen really came up with a wonderful story in YA!  I just hope they return in the future to do more.  With that in mind I want mention that Kate Bishop (Hawkeye) is the brains of the team.  Patriot (Eli Bradley) may be the designated leader, but Kate seems to know what to do all the time!

I know the Sins Past storyline brought grief and ire to a lot of Spider-Man fans (mabye not as much as OMD !), but I think Mike Deodato Jr. is an outstanding artist!

Dan, Jim Cheung is one of my top 3 favorite artists right now.  His YA was good, but his Illuminati was incredible!

I haven't put up any "Thor" yet.  Here's an awesome one from Buscema/Sinnott!

Greg -

Illuminati is awesome!  Both the concept and the execution!

Who are your other two favorite top artists?

Not counting the Chief (who is always a favorite throughout the last couple decades!), the other 2 would have to be Olivier Coipel and probably Steve Epting.  Now, Epting fits into the realism category more than the other 2, and he's in my list as top favorites for a different reason.  I really love his art, but don't wish to emulate him (and therefore I can enjoy his comic art just as a reader rather than a student!), whereas the other 2 I try to pick up little hints because I'd love to have a style similar to theirs.
