Actually, I applaud Tom Scioli's efforts on Godland.
Kirby stopped drawing prematurely for my needs and I still can't get enough of this particular style of storytelling. You might as well say that there should be no more Sherlock Holmes stories because Doyle has shuffled off this mortal coil or no more Star Trek because the great Bird of the Galaxy has flown the coop.

Aric, I think he's saying the imitators of all those artists. At least that's the way I read it.

McFarlane can't shine Mignola, Nowlan or Davis' boots and I don't see much resemblance. To me, McFarlane's a K-Mart Arthur Adams.
Seriously, the rise of the Image guys and their imitators are a big part of what drove me away from comics in late 80s/early 90s. The only guy in the bunch I liked was Silvestri. Nowadays I love Savage Dragon (I've got every issue now), but if you told me that ten years ago I'd have thought you were nuts.

But is it imitation? Speaking again of Tom Scioli: is not the Kirby style as much part of the message as the narrative itself?
JB has often said that he felt his art is not big enough for Thor (I disagree) but can we not infer from his opinion that there is some "bigness" in the Kirby style/vision itself that is essential to Thor?

Here I do NOT agree. I liked Todd's art. I still do. His art was dynamic and I still like his Spider-Man. The Image guys can draw. It is a different style, but they can draw. Jim Lee is VERY talented; Larsen is HUGELY talented; Portacio is likewise very good. Even Rob had his moments
