Well, both the "buyer" and "faker" should be publicly humiliated, drug through a pile of horseshit, and then kicked in the ass. It would be one thing if the buyer asked another artist to do another version of the drawing (and paying for both versions), but this guy didn't buy the first, and thats an absolute pile of crap.

I can understand copying out of spite, that is a malicious thing to do. Heck, he said it was malicious! That sucks. Very low rent. I don't think it is illegal, but I do think it is unethical and immoral.
That said, I can understand refusing a commission. I think it is fair to certain expectations for certain characters. I would expect either bands or else the Kree uniform rather than something a bit outside of the norm. If I requested a Spider-Man and I got the version from right after the Clone Saga where the web shooters were on the outside, I would be a bit put off. If it couldn't/wouldn't be fixed, I might even be upset about it only due to the excitement and anticipation I had built up. I would have to think long and hard on if I wanted it.
Now, if I was a popular artist, at least i could probably turn around and sell the commission elsewhere for probably the same amount of money and I probably wouldn't worry about it.

A "commission", by definition, is a bit of a gamble. It is never* going to be
exactly what the commissioner has in his mind.
*ok, the recreations might be the safest bet, I concede.

Brad, the thread at IMWAN is in the WANderground section, which you can only see if you're registered.
I have to hold my nose every time I go in there, so I generally stay out, but I just had to see what Pat had to say about this, and he's coming off like a big tool (which is no surprise).

In defense of the site, there is a lot of fun stuff and fun people over there. Don't let Pat (or whoever) ruin it for you. After all, he didn't ruin it here.
Okay, I don't even know who Pat is.

Its not IMWAN that stinks, just the inevitable Byrne-bashing threads that pop-up. I tend to back out as soon as I see that's what a thread is about, because I couldn't believe the reaching\grasping at straws that was going on when I read part of one shortly after I first joined.
Incidentally, I rarely post at IMWAN because I'm a member of at least 8 different forums, and I have 3 in particular I spend the most time at - this is one of them, though I spend a lot more time just reading here than I do posting while I tend to post a lot more at the other two.
Now, The Comics Journal forums, on the other hand, seemed to be filled with nothing BUT idiots and such the few times I dared go there when the whole situation that I guess must not be named was going on, so I avoid that entire forum like the plague.
