No, Pat Ditton stole JB's work.

***

So Pat was the one who traced JB's drawing?

And Mr. Castrillo knowingly helped in the theft.

Kerr-ect Al!

Something I'm sure he'd be all to pleased to recify if I'm reading Ari's posts correctly!

MAC should recompense JB
You must be out of your mind joe...
It doesn't matter if Pat offered to buy the original or not. It doesn't matter if he paid for the orignal or not.

He owes John Byrne money because John's work was used in the creation of another piece of art. So money is owed ontop of anything he would owe for the original artwork

MAC ... breathe ... you're not a scumbag here.

Your judgement lapsed for a moment and this has caused a few JB fans to express their displeasure vociferously.

You have already expressed that this incident will not have a sequel. The future value of your reputation hinges on this.

To the rest of the offended board members: I don't know where your finances are sitting right now but mine have gone up and down (sometimes very down) over the years. I have actually gone without or with very little food a few times. I am NOT condoning theft of any kind here, but sometimes, when faced with dire circumstances, mistakes can be made. Unless you yourself have walked a mile in a person's shoes, you can't imagine what pressures or pains this person is coping with.

Myself: if my kid needed absolutely a lifesaving treatment that I had no honorable means of obtaining, I would do anything short of murder to get it. This simple realization has driven the point home to me that ethical behavior is a rather plastic concept and that's it's far easier to be ethical with a full belly and a fat bank account.

NO. He did (in an admitted moment of bad judgement) accept a commission
to trace stolen artwork, but he in no way participated in its actual theft.

Smarten up.

I don't think for one second Anthony owes Byrne any money. Ditton does
and I'll ask Ar this: If Byrne took Ditton to small claims court, would he get a
judgement in his favor? I say yes!

"That's like getting pinched for shop lifting and then saying you will pay for
the item...now that you have been caught."

(Ditton) asked to buy the piece bfore he was "caught"

••

Oh? Who did he "ask"?

I would have though Jim Warden's post would have calmed things down, but I guess not.
