(And of course, while I was posting that, MAC posted that he knew the deal
had fallen through.)

You were trying to see the good side of MAC, I knew MAC knew about the
deal between Byrne and Ditton right from the start, just a gut feeling on my
part.I'm sure I'll be completely wrong the next time I give an opinion!

That Ken is a pretty good inker.

What's the old saying, "honor among thieves..."?

Whether or not you like what Anthony did you've gotta give him credit for showing up and taking the heat.  Especially heat from someone he's stated is an influence.  That takes guts...

I don't like the idea of the swipe and think you probably should've told the customer that it was either your way or the highway.  You're a great artist and really don't need to trace...I think this would've been a great time to tell the customer that, contrary to popular belief, he is not always right and that he'd either need to take your take on the art or take nothing at all.  That said...I don't know anyone who hasn't made a mistake professionally and had to live with it.  I give you credit for showing up and have to respect you taking the heat.

The tracing of my X-MEN cover reimagining, above, raises another point of contention in all this. Wayne Osborne bought that cover, which makes him the owner of the physical work. If that physical work is being reproduced, he is entitled to a piece of that action.

I totally agree with that....

With the exception of likeing how a particular  inker works i don't see why somebody would hire a different person to do the job.

I guess your benefit of the doubt can now be laid to rest

It has, Thom. But I think MAC's getting enough grief for it without me
turning around and shitting on him for it too.

I will revise my estimation of the situation, though:

Castrillo: Bad decision.
Ditton: Still a douchebag.

traceing over pencils is what inkers do.....( i know it's more then that) but to
shortcut it. The pencils are templates for what the inker is gonna "TRACE"
over

+++++

I know what inking is. In this case, Byrne did more than pencils, he did the
complete job. That's where we disagree, I guess.

J.B. has this experince made you rethink doing the work and not getting paid until after it's done ?

If you remain as you have i commend you for sticking to your guns and conducting yourself in such a upstanding and professional manner.

Agreed.  Trying to pass this off as a standard inking job is BS; the original was already inked.

Since this issue has come up, I have a question for folks.  I commissioned an artist to do a piece for me, and the next thing I know i see "prints" of the commission on ebay?  At first I was flattered by it and thought wow, the artist likes the piece enough to sell it as a print, but then I felt that it cheapened the commission experience.  Either way, i felt I should have at least been asked.  What do you guys think of that?
