A great drawing, but really not one of my favorite characters.

I have no idea! I had no part in designing the character.

++

Who did design the character?

I had assumed you did, since (as far as I know, but I could be wrong) she first appeared during your X-Men run. Apparently, I assumed erroneoulsy.

••

Dazzler has a somewhat checkered past. She was created, obviously, to cash in on the Disco craze -- because, you know, music has always worked so well in comic books!! -- and at some point in her genesis it was decided to give her a little extra leg up by making her a mutant. Mutants were beginning to be popular, largely because of a little book hardly anybody was buying, called UNCANNY X-MEN. So, it was further decided, she would make her debut in that book.

Right f**king now.

In other words, "Chris and John, boo hoo that you're right in the middle of a 2 part story introducing Kitty Pryde -- it just became a three part story, and you're going to introduce the Disco Dazzler!"

Thank dog, the "Disco" was dropped from her name before she made her debut, but Chris and I were still left, to this day, denying that we created her.

(Who was it who insisted that Chris and I expand our two-parter into a three parter? Why, the very same Editor-in-Chief who, about a year later, would insist that all stories be one-parters, as of right f**king now -- thus causing Roger Stern to quit CAPTAIN AMERICA.)

Oddly enough, not one of mine, either. Tho she can be fun to draw, as here.

I always liked the "disco ball" boots n bracelets.

Nice picture and treatment of a character that hasn't gotten a lot of respect.

Nice commission, never really got Dazzler though.  For me I have a hard time with the "sound" characters in comics, i.e. Tyroc, Dazzler, Banshee.  I have a hard time connecting what the sound is supposed to do while reading a comic.  Think that those type powers would come across better in a movie or TV show.
Black Canary's Canary Cry however does work for me, such it the whims of comicbooks!

I liked the "What If" story where Dazzler became a herald of Galactus.

I like the character, but I hate the disco costume.  It's a testament to JB's talent that she looks pretty good here.

I think Gail Simone managed to make Dazzler work as a "retro" singer in the modern Marvel Universe.

Dazzler was a favorite of mine back when she had her own series in the early 80's so it's very cool for me to see her represented with a commission.  I remember being disappointed when she first dropped the makeup and disco costume.  In hindsight, yes, I can see why it was done!  I still get nostalgic seeing her original costume like this, though.
