Interestingly, the development of Talisman is where I started to lose interest in Alpha Flight.  I really liked Shaman and wanted him developed more before the focus was placed on his daughter.

I found Elizabeth kind of unsympathetic and snotty.  I always wondered if that that impression was intended by the creator (JB).  I thought it made the decision Shaman later makes to save Talisman last (about 6 issues later) where Shaman fails to save Talisman a lot easier to make.

I secretly hoped at the time that Talisman would have died and this emotional trauma would have fueled a more intersting Shaman.

This is an interesting issue, the introduction of Talisman. I didn't saw that coming at the time. And later, it seemed like she was getting more powerful, than the rest of her teammates (like phoenix??). Jb's inks are superb.

But the cover of this one is always weird to my eyes, and its the position of Talisman's legs...

I never liked Talisman much either.  I think I felt it was too simple that the daughter of Shaman had powers, too -- and I didn't feel she deserved them, probably becuase of her attitude.

It's been a loooong time since I've read the issues - I should go back through them and see if I still feel the same way.

A very natural dancer's pose. Maybe it's the fact that she's floating in the
air?

 QUOTE:
the art has an almost Michael Golden look to it.

The way Heather was drawn on the splash page as always looked off to me, and I couldn't tell why.  She does have a Michael Golden look to her though.

I agree that there is something different about the art / inks in this issue... like JB was subtly experimenting with a new technique?  In any case, I really like it!  In particular, that splash of Shaman (with the vortex) just jumps out at me.

Ranaq is the scariest baddie in comics bar none, IMO. (*shiver*)

When I read this the thing with the eggs sill bugs me.  I liked the book, but I haven't read it for over 10 years.

Loved the time travel element especially using the old West. Nice intro to Talisman. Shaman continues to be one of my favorited AF members.
