I actually have NO IDEA what issue of ASM it actually was! I know it had a clone of Gwen and the Jackal in it. The opening page showed the jackal leaning over the cloning pods, if my memory serves. If anyone can help me
figure out what it was, that would be great (should have been around 1976
or 1977, maybe?).

Sounds like Amazing Spider-Man 149.  Possibly 147 or 148, but I'm pretty sure it's 149.

This is one of the earliest covers I remember having.

Scott McKeeve - that certainly was a British book published I think by Oldhams. I still have it somewhere.

Joe - I know what you mean about the annuals. I have a few old Star Trek annuals from the early seventies that are falling apart. I love those books though.

Most of my comics growing up were the British steadfasts - The Beano, The Dandy, Whizzer & Chips, Buster, Cheeky, The Topper, The Beezer, Battle, Action, Warlord - you know at between 4p to 10p over the decade a pop for these comics, you could get a lot every week. Nowadays I am paying £2.10 (approx $4) a go for the now weekly Doctor Who Adventures for my 7 year old daughter!

Remembering as well we used to get hardback annuals at Christmas time and then Summer Specials (and both were usually oversized versions of the weekly comics - with all new material).

My first super-hero comic was Superman (original series) #303, but I don't remember if that was my first comic period or not. I was 5 when it came out, and I also read some Disney comics back then.

First Marvel comic was Incredible Hulk #216.

*edit* fake milestone: post #1100

Jason C.,

That's the one! I couldn't even recall the cover, but in searching online, that
was it! The fact that he fought himself in the issue was just crazy to my
young mind!

Thanks!

I recall seeing comics, but as far as one that I remember owning, it would probably be Marvel Spotlight #9.

I could not read at the time, and I recall some comics being read to me, this was one of them.

Detective comics 700 (Part one of Legacy)

Remember I'm only 22! While I have certainly read better, this was the first!
