Another great issue. And another hint about Northstar's orientation.

I've often wondered about that cryptic response given on the letters page. What was the question?

Was the question from Mr. Donovan regarding Northstar's orientation?

Man, some of these AF issues scared the bejeezers out of me when I was a kid!

This one was no exception.

Oh god, I love this issue. Why can't they just reprint the whole run into one black and white phonebook. Northstar's house looks awesome.

Ah, but that would make too much sense, Martin...

JB, I always wondered about the image of Heather on the cover, and how it is almost-but-not-quite what's in the book.  It didn't seem to make sense that you would make it as close as it was.  Cover-scenes are always a tricky thing, but I don't recall seeing one appear inside the comic that was so close.  Not a criticism, just curious!

Of course by about 1992, they would've put a die-cut cover on the book and had it just open up onto the page, ha ha. (and charged you $2.00)

Such a gulf between having Heather putting the costume in front of her in
the mirror, to see herself as leader of AF and actually putting on the
costume. Ah, well...the highs and the lows...

I was really glad that JB didn't put Heather in the Guardian costume. I enjoyed seeing her be the leader just as she is. Great issue. Glad that Shaman was getting some action. He is one of my favorite AF crew. You just knew that Elizabeth had a great destiny before. Was curious as to how that was going to be played out.

I've waited 20+ years to ask JB this question:  Did you work out in your mind what Snowbird actually looks like?  The way it's presented in the story is powerful because it makes us use our imaginations, but I've always suspected that you had worked out a little more detail but went with the above presentation because it was better story telling.
