Wow...this almost looks like a Spider-Man comic!

No hyphen on that sign in the background, though. Sigh.

And why is there Daily Bugle ad calling Spider-Man a "Masked Menace" right by a sign that says "Spiderman Returns!"?

That sort of fits with Jonah's anythng-to-sell-papers attitude. But. . . not having read with great diligence for a while, where is Spiderman (sic) returning from?

From the depths of piss poor characterization at the hands of individuals who just didn't get him, of course..... though we can only cross our fingers that he is actually returning.

I guess Spider-Man hasn't been seen for "months" at the beginning of Brand New Day.  Why, I'm not sure, but is probably (I hope) explained in the story.

++++++++++

From Quesada's dungeon?

Anyway, it appears to be a reference to the "real" Spider-Man returning from the land of marriage and mystical powers.

Gotta love these "money-shot" covers that are supposed to entice people into buying them.

There's apparently no internal logic for such a sign being there (unless it refers to the story contained within). It looks to be there solely for the readers.

The late 1970's

Not knowing anybody in charge's personal life could this be wish fulfillment on the part of somebody - you know "I wish I could write my marriage out of existance even if it meant making a deal with the devil" sort of thing.

"Keep up the nagging and I'll retcon you"

I'm not sure if this has already been discussed...but what's the consensus on the thrice-monthly thing?  It obviously came about because they had one book (AMAZING) selling more than the other two Spider-monthlies combined, but is trying to squeeze more money out of the AMAZING audience really the best way to deal with that?  Given the rotating creative teams, I can almost believe they'll get the book out on schedule.  But they've basically turned the book into an anthology title now, and I've seen nothing to make me believe that M****l editorial will be able to create and sustain a consistent tone and style for the readers.

That's a beautifully drawn cover, but I've never understood the appeal of these pin-up style covers. They may look great, but they don't tell you anything about the story inside.

I mean, check out just about any Spider-Man comic from the 1960s through the 1990s and the cover will give you a pretty good idea about what the story is about. I'm much more likely to buy a comic if the cover promises an appealing story.

I agree Bruce, it is pretty, but doesn't 'tell a story', if that makes any sense.

I find it has a MacFarlane vibe (in the pose and wonky angle, not the rendering <g>).
