<<And to all of those who argue that divorce "ages" Peter--does it age him
any more than MAKING HIM A TEACHER? Or establishing (as one writer
did) that he was bitten by the radioactive spider 15 YEARS AGO? Or
DRAWING HIM TO LOOK LIKE HE'S IN HIS 30s????   All of which has been
done over the last seven years. >>

I remember hearing about what was going on in the books after I left...the teacher thing in particular... and thought exactly that!

Hmm, I kinda feel sorry for Joe Q: whatever path chosen, either maintaining the status quo or 'upset(ting) the applecart', somebody is pissed off <g>.

It sure is twisted fun watching the Big Two flounder about desperately trying to gain readers <g>.

So... why aren't they still together in BRAND NEW DAY? As a couple, I mean,
not as a married couple. Shouldn't the readers know and understand why?

***********

I'm sure that's coming in the not-too-distant future. In fact, it was already hinted at in the epilogue to this most recent issue.

We probably will.  That didn't strike me as anything other than story telling suspense.  We're suppose to wonder what is going on.

 QUOTE:
Just a couple who had a baby out of wedlock.

Which, interestingly enough, in the same interview, Quesada states is the reason he vetoed JMS making Peter the twins' father in "Sins Past"...he didn't think it would be appropriate for Spider-Man to have children "out of wedlock"...then plows ahead with the reboot that means...Spider-Man had a child "out of wedlock."

More than half the marriages in the U.S. today end in divorce. It's a fact of
life. There's no stigma against it anymore.

•••

Ask a 12 year old whose parents just split up if that's true.

(That number is incorrect, btw. There are about half as many divorces in a
given year as there are marriages, but the people getting divorced didn't all
get married at the same time. Some have been married a short time, or a
long time, or anything in between.)

I like him being married to MJ, i like him being a teacher. But very few writers wrote married Peter well. Actually only David Michelinie (Amazing) & JM DeMatteis IMO (Kraven's Last Hunt, maybe Spectacular too.).

Probably because most of the other writers don't like to write about Married Spidey.

An exemple Roger Stern could have come back in the late 80s but didn't, because of that. (though the writing of the Peter/MJ couple in Hobgoblin Lives was ok. Could even be added to the two names aboves because of this mini. but you got my point.)

So I'm not absolutely against a reboot if it allows writers to have more fun writing  Spider-Man. My favorite version is the Roger Stern version. And i began to buy Amazing with Wolfman/Andru.(first meet the character with Conway/Andru, Wein/Andru & Lee Ditko issues).

University studient Peter is my favorite.

BUT. I'm, for the same reasons Glenn gave, against a deal with Mephisto. This is moraly very problematic. And unworthy of both Peter and MJ.

Now the Howard/JB Shapper of the world idea: Fine, excepted that the changes made by the Shapper have to this day never been definitive i think? And are anyway something that goes against the natural order. But at least the characters would still be themselves.

I don't see why they just can't give their series a proper ending then start over fresh the next month. It's the same old crap as the 90s with better artwork. The writing is just as much rubbish if not worse, worse, worse, worser.

Wasn't arguing that it was an easy or pleasant experience for anyone
involved. Only that there's no stigma or "black mark" attached to divorce
anymore.

I'll bet a lot of other kids in that 12-year-old's class could relate to his/her
experience.

Well anyway this is good news for grown men who still live with their moms. They finally have a hero they can identify with again: "MOM mustn't know I date other girls! She's so possessive she could just die."

They should've restarted him as an high schooler. Who aspires to be a college student who lives with his mom? Why on earth...

That IS part of being the EIC. Though, I have to say that I admire Joe for going forward with the ideas, standing behind them, whether everyone agrees with them or not. As I have often said THAT was one of the big problems with the Clone Story... everyone got cold feet, got wishy-washy, and decided to stall in mid-stream.
