I have never heard so many complaints about coloring as in this JBRC on AF. It seems almost every issue there is some sort of weird choice or mistake.

Yup Pat, that was the one. Big day for us when it opened.

Michael A said: "how long in the series was it before you decided to kill Guardian?"
JB said: "Before the first issue."
***************
Now THAT is a surprise.
I had assumed it was only a couple of issues before, as the plot thread of Jaxxon was started. I'll have to go back and see what plot points that were there that I may have missed.
Should have known that JB was planning on this major event more than a couple of months out.

In those days, when plot-thread-shredding "events" were not S.O.P., I rarely
worked on a series without having at least a year plotted out ahead of me.
My early days on FF, when I was working on my sixth issue without much
idea of what would be in the 8th was just too nerve-wracking!

Seriously, I still can't make heads or tails of the third panel in this sequence. No slight intended against JB's artistic skills, of course.
For some strange reason, the true nature of this one panel has eluded me for years. Is it a headshot? A medium shot? A big blob of flamey stuff?
And, as an aside, the art strongly indicates that Mac's arms were blown off.
Still one of the most chilling and devastating death scenes in comics, ever.

Glen (Hi Glen!) & Pat. I was working for Fandom's when they closed down in '97. They had opened up a new store near UNR & I was running it pretty much on my own.
They suffered from the fallout of the speculators. They were catering to them BIG time & when the speculators did their disappearing act, Fandom's went belly up.
It was a sad day for Reno, IMO.
All that was REALLY left was the store over at Old Town Mall (now Reno Town Mall) & I think Alex D's (which I hear is no longer a going concern in Reno).
Ah well.

Then the coloring is wrong, because the bottom of the panel is white, like the floor is in the surrounding panels.

Alex D's went belly up (thank God !! -- what a dick)
DJs is still around, now in the Costco mall and there's a baseball card shop off MaeAnn that the bank wouldn't finance unless he had "something else to sell" - so he bought all of Alex Ds inventory and sells back issues.
PAUL ---- wow --- I think I remember you -- had blushy cheeks and glasses, right? -- Taller guy with brown hair (short).
Whatever happened to Linda and Co?
And....the girl that worked there (at Fandoms) -- her name escapes me at the moment -- she was thinking of buying Fandoms but couldn't raise the cash....
I actually offered them a flat rate for everything -- I had that cash -- but they felt insulted at my offer ($20K if I recall) -- they said they had over $100K in inventory and rejected my offer.
Oh, well.

Hey Paul (long time no see!). I didn't realize it was the speculators that
brought them down. I thought it was some sort of illness one of them had.
A funny (and JB related story) from my early days at Fandom. A friend and I
were in there buying our comics and talking about JB's Superman. Knowing
what a big JB fan I was, my friend was going on about how bad it was,
mostly just to harass me I think. One of the ladies told him to be quiet
because someone might overhear him and decide not to buy the issue. They
understood that a dollar was a dollar, whatever someone decided to spend it
on. My, how times have changed, eh?

The only comic story surprise ending that ever left me breathless.
I always assumed that the Mac figure in Panels 3-4 was him dropping to his knees as the flames and carnage enveloped him. I might have to look at these panels more closely.
