I am reading Essential X-Men #6. One thing I noticed is CYclops is being written in a very sympathetic light. He is the sole voice of reason as the others say he is crazy, except for Kitty. Maddie is written as the most needie, insecure woman. Constantly giving Scott grief for remembering Jean. "Oh Scott why do you care about your wife/lover who killed herself to save the universe."
I mean Cyclops wanting to stay on as the X-Men's leader in a period of instability is very understandable. The schools founder/leader was nearly murdered and the X-Men's greatest enemy replaced him. Now to me that says "Maybe I should not leave just now." Not to mention at that point and time, Storm was hardly the most stable person to lead. But I think thats exactly what Claremont was going for.
I mean honestly, I do not blame Scott for running back to Jean as fast as his feet could carry him. The only thing he did wrong was not grabbing the kid.
Now speaking of that. Why did Maddie just abandon their home after two days. Rather than make sure her husbend had not been murdered/kidnapped/violated by one of the X-Men's numerous enemies?
