JJ, I too have ordered from my store already, even though FX hasn't been solicited.  Just because they cannot order yet from Diamond doesn't mean that I cannot order from them.  It's called service, and I demand it from everyone I give money.  Some comic stores actually let you order what you want, as opposed to telling their customers that they do not care for John Byrne.

Maybe there is hope for mankind afterall.

Well, I don't think it'd've been a big problem back in the day when I was a regular comicbook buyer, Ted (and especially when my favourite Gothenburg store was still alive and kicking, never liked the one that's left all that much, though I was a subscriber there for a while, many years ago as well). But since I mostly buy things on-line and mostly in TPB format these days, I just don't have that natural regular customer feeling whenever I do hit the store on rare occasions.

But I'll sort it out for sure. Slightly tempted to use a store that's not in Gothenburg, but another Swedish town, but then it'd be a question of what the shipping expenses would be, and risks for damage to single issue shipments (I mean, I definitely couldn't wait to have them shipped in one shipment, right).

Anyway, rambling on a bit here, but I'll but that down to my nagging headache. Hope I've made some semblance of sense in my ramblings though.

Thanks for sharing, JB.  Like Andrew, I enjoy glimpses behind the Great and All-Powerful Oz's curtain!

Unlike the publishers, Wayne gets physical ownership, and that means I am trying to produce finished pages that, in many cases, have fairly detailed artwork even in places I know balloons and captions will have to go.

This is the definition of a professional/good business man. Forget the artsy aspect of it all. This is, in the loosest terms, what I do where I work. Making sure that the work satisfies the customers/end users expectations. It's called QUALITY.

Out of curiousity, while I think this approach is great for Wayne in his
role as art owner, I can't help but wonder how it affects Wayne in his role
as script writer. I recall having read somewhere about some artist (Kirby?)
leaving certain times of spaces open, so as to have his script writer (Stan
Lee?) work for his money in a sense, filling the emptiness on the page
with words. Similarly I think I for my own part would possibly feel
awkward in Wayne's position if any words I use would have to be minimal
or risk blocking nice looking stuff.
As stated just curious about this, both if JB has thought anything about it,
and how Wayne is approaching this when scripting.

Joakim,

Well, they have to say what they have to say. Obviously, I think about it
and try to minimize "coverage" as best I can. In fact, that was pretty
much the only instruction I gave to Workman when he did issue 1 - cover
as little art as possible. And the book is SFX heavy due to the very
premise of it. But I think I can find a good balance between word
balloons, captions, sfx, and JB's art. That's why I pay myself the big editor
bucks. :-)

Does Wayne Osborne plan on working on more projects with different
artists?

Let me get this one finished first, Michael. Although, I do have other arcs
planned. And John did say he was game as long as my wallet held out so...

Wayne,

When will F/X be solicited?

Thanks for the insight, Wayne. As stated I was mainly curious because it seemed almost a daunting task to allow characters to say even what they have to say (or captions for that matter) when risking the "loss" of art. It's not that I fear that the result would be bad, given JB's storytelling talent, I am quite sure a minimalistic approach and restraint can be very productive in the scripting process (there are after all quite a few silent comics (and even more silent passages in comics) that work very well as such).
The example I mentioned (though only half remembered, does anyone have the specifics for that anecdote?) just showed to me interesting aspects of the interaction between writer and artist in the Marvel method... where and artist can affect the script writer's input, not only through what he puts in the pictures but also through what spaces he leaves for the script writer to play with.
And following up my question from that point, are there areas in the pages you receive from JB that you more easily feel are there for your benefit as art collector and less for the storytelling (in effect being a form of open space for you to write upon) or is it more or less a sensation of killing your visual little JB darlings in scripting?

JB - Naturally, I am curious as to any in-put you may have into how you think about the scripting matters vs. the art for Wayne issue. While filling the pages for his benefit, how do you consider the fact that you know there'll have to be balloons and captions in places in the pictures? You are after all not a spring chicken in the comics medium, so I'm really curious how this process works within these differing parameters.

Will the complete art for this be posted somewhere on the JBF, like with other recent comics and commissions?

It's all scanned, as I send Wayne daily updates. I expect it will end up in the
Gallery once the series has come out.

JJ, I too usually buy TPBs online and haven't been to an LCS for quite some time (since the end of Demon & Doom Patrol), but I went back for this.  I added JLA Classified to my list, and The IDW/JB Star Trek Special is in the current Previews.  FX will be in next month's.  Go back to a store, tell 'em what you want, and if they can't help you, walk out.

Hey, if you can't get them, you can always buy mine when I am done reading them.
