Alex Ross just doesn't like the character, and feels that his addition to the JLA marks the end of the era he liked the best. So he just doesn't draw him when he does JLA groupshots or the like.

Now, I really wish I had money because I'd love to own a JB Firestorm. (Well, actually a Firestorm/Power Girl commission, if I HAD the money...)

Ahhh, how times change! I did a calendar piece for Marvel, lo these many
years ago, and almost got FIRED because I left out characters I did not think
deserving of inclusion with the others in the group!

Great pic, JB.  I love seeing you tackle characters you're not normally associated with.  Terrific stuff!

Ostrander was on Firestorm?  When was that?

==============================================

Issues 55-56, 58-79, 81-100 and Annual 5 were John Ostrander's run.

I was a great fan of his work on Grimjack, Suicide Sqaud and The Spectre, but he took Firestrom in a direction I really didn't like.

The dynamic between Ronnie and Martin was gone, and what had been a really fun series under Gerry Conway became a bit too serious, political, environmental and at times spiritual for my liking.

Uh, I don't recall the era he liked the best (or any era of the JLA for that matter) simultaneously having Captain Marvel, Metamorpho (he even turned down membership) or Plastic Man as members along with the classic Satellite era group.

I guess being a big name means you can edit history to your liking and deprive readers of your interpretation of an important character in the JLA  ranks while adding characters that had absolutely nothing to do with the group at the time of his so-called "favorite era".

Wow.. sorry to bump this older thread but I almost missed this one. Luckily someone else mentioned this commission in another thread. I love it. The lighting is great.

I really dig this character. it's funnny to me how a lot of people don't like him. I think that makes me enjoy him even more. I wish you had done that Firestorm project, JB. I think your style is great for the feel of this character.

Not a problem, Charles. Commission threads are un-lockable. They are
intended to remain open for posting as long as the Forum endures!
