We could always just lock this thread since the question was asked and
answered.

However, Professor, here's some more references for you, if that's what you require:

Not commenting on the rest of your discussion, but I don't think two wikis and the FAQ from a fansite are the strongest references. Especially ones containing a line like:

 QUOTE:
This is possibly the explanation that the inhabitants of Apokolips, used-car salesmen, lawyers, and Martha Stewart are unable to use these devices.

Does that change the accuracy of the information originally given?

Sorry for the Wikipedia comment, Gene -- I ran across that when looking for images of the Mother Box, so I presumed (obviously incorrectly) that you go the info from there, too.  My apologies.

My comments still stand, though -- I don't recall ever seeing a square Mother Box, and I was unfamiliar with the Forever People's funky cube-shaped Mother Box . . . I only recall seeing rectangular, cassette-shaped red or gray Mother Boxes.  The picture of Metron holding the cube looked to me like some artist's attempt to one-up Kirby by reinterpreting what a Mother Box should look like -- and since that looked nothing like any Kirby-penned Mother Box that I could recall, I figured the reason for the change from Kirby's norm was an intent to out-do the master (trying to be kewler than the old-school "masters," if you will).

Please accept my apologies for the tone of my response -- my original post was a bit snarky with the "kewl" comment because I had never seen Kirby draw a cube-shaped Mother Box, so I thought someone was trying to one-up Kirby by doing it "right" (or at least "better" or "different").

Perhaps I over-reacted to your response because I guess I was engaging in a bit of mind-reading, but if that was out-of-line, your "Kreskin" comment was equally out-of-line, IMO.  You stated that as YOU understand it, the "look" of a Mother Box is up for interpretation.  In my response, I stated that I'm not a New Gods expert by any means, but whenever I think of a "Mother Box" I usually imagine a cassette-shaped red or gray box like the pics posted by Daniel and Gerry.  You called me out, you're now a forum hero (at least Paul Kimball's hero, anyway), but I still say that object that Metron is holding looks more like a cross between a Cosmic Cube and a Borg ship than it does a Mother Box . . . the rest of my comment was indeed mind-reading, so you are right about that.  Again, my apologies for my snarky tone.

NOW, let's just leave it at that and let's get back to our regular, civil discussion, okay?

Accuracy, no. Reliability, yes. Also, I believe Darkseid has been shown to be able to use a Mother Box, so that quote I pulled out is incorrect.

Which raises an interesting point, perhaps -- if only those of good moral character can use a Mother Box, and if Darkseid (and other inhabitants of Apokolips?) can use a Mother Box, then doesn't that indicate that, as a god, perhaps Darkseid is truly above what we humans percieve as "good" and "moral"?  Certainly raises some questions for the theologians and the philosophers . . .

This world would be a much better place if we geeks and nerds were the
ones in charge of fighting our wars...

I dunno, Al, what if, like Darkseid,, perhaps we geeks and nerds are truly above what other humans perceive as "good" and "moral"?  I guess it really doesn't matter, as long as we all get along, eh?

There was a good issue of the current Blue Beetle series that prominently
featured a Mother Box, Lonar and Metron. It's in the second paperback
collection entitled "Road Trip."

Except for Green Lantern's ring, or possibly Iron Man's armor, I would so love to have my very own Mother Box.
