That cover is gorgeous, JB. One question I have: in viewing your commissions here (including these) I notice that the blacks (especially large areas of shadow) are not solid black, but rather you can see the pen/brush strokes meeting in various places, almost like a darker pencil scan. Does the printing process solidify the blacks into a seamless whole?

It may have changed, with improved printing techniques, but as it was explained to me years ago, the process is called 60/40. Anything lighter than 40% black drops out and prints white, anything darker than 60% black closes up and prints black.I do wonder about that 20% in the middle! Perhaps it is translated into the Gray Dimension. Also, you see the grays in these images because they are scanned as grayscale, which I have found looks better on a computer screen than images scanned as line art.

"hey Wayne, which issue does the handsome Scotsman appear?"
There's guy in issue 3 but he's wearing a helmet so I'm not sure of his
nationality. If it gets knocked off and he has red hair, he's your man.
"I'm waiting for the Golden Age guest star"
Issue six. Golden Age, at least.

I went back to a LCS today to subscribe just to make sure I would be able to buy new copies of FX and JLA: Classified.

In newsprint, you pretty much count on a 20-30% dot gain, your mid tones will print about that much darker. For grayscale photographs, output levels are around 3 and 93% for highlights and shadows. Your flexo press at optimum printing is going to start printing white around 3% dot and you're going to get inconsistant printing below that so you get what I call white bulls-eyes on peoples' foreheads or skies that have flakey white areas Likewise, the dots start filling in above 93 giving you splotchy shadow areas. Your offset presses are capable of more subtle and extreme ranges so you can go from zero to a hundred as long as you're careful where those highlights and shadows are in the photos.
FX looks like fun. Can hardly wait til it hits the shops and I can see the full story.

••
It's being done "Marvel style" -- plot, art, script -- so I am contributing
pacing and some character bits.
