Wayne,

How long did it take for you to write the dialogue for an issue?

Has John's approach to this project evolved ? It was presented at first as a giant commission project and John said he didn't care at all what Wayne did with it. Is it different now ?

••

Nope, no "evolution". I'm pleased for Wayne that he has found a publisher (tho I hope this does not turn into a bucket of cold water in terms of his own enthusiasm for the project, and future such projects, when the realities of publishing and the marketplace crash down on him), but for me, a job is a job is a job. About the only thing I can say I did differently here -- something you can see in that first panel -- is that I did not thin out the details when I knew balloons would have to go. Wayne is buying the art as art, as well as something he wants to publish, so I am doing what I can to give him full pages, without giving him pages that will be too "busy" when printed.

JB, while doing Wayne's dream project, do you ever think about doing something of your own? not necessarily meaning JBNM here, but anything original?

Here's a look at the cover for FX3, sans logo.

Does the STAR TREK stuff I'm doing with IDW count? I've been working on
some of that "on the side", while doing FX3.

Incidentally, I'll mentioned here that now that 3 is done, I am going to "clean
the pipes" next week, so look for some of the commissions originally
scheduled for 2008 to show up over Monday thru Friday.

That cover--the p.o.v., the detail, and the mystery of what in the world is that boy looking at that took out the entire football team--is absolutely fantastic.

"How long did it take for you to write the dialogue for an issue?"

Believe it or not, I do a lot of thinking about it before I write anything down.
As John sends me the pages, I start "acting it out" in my head. Trying to get
a good flow going. For some panels/pages, the words come to me
immediately. Then I'll sit down and write it out in a notebook, wait a bit, and
then type it out in "comic script form" and make it better if I've thought of
something different. I'll give it one last look before I send it off just to make
sure.

The hardest thing is knowing when to stop.

Thanks, Wayne.  Hopefully, the process will get easier with each new issue.  I am looking forward to the series.

JB, how many commission requests do you have on the list?
