If you could choose a never-before-seen battle for Superman to have, who would you choose? And why?

For years, I have been craving a Superman/Riddler encounter. I'd love to see how Superman handles The Riddler's clues because I suspect he'd have a harder time than Batman. Some people I know say it would be a mismatch, but look at the great Superman/Joker story Mr. Byrne wrote/drew in 1987 which presented The Joker as a credible Superman foe. In a one-off tale, I'm sure someone could present The Riddler as a credible opponent for The Man of Steel.

If you ask me, a good writer could come up with a scenario that keeps Superman and Riddler apart long enough for The Riddler to get one over on Superman (until Superman solves the clues, of course). Then it'd be fun seeing The Man of Steel finally catch The Riddler and throw him in jail.

I'd also love to see Superman VS Bane, Superman VS Professor Zoom and Superman VS Sinestro (not sure if they've ever been done). As far as an intercompany crossover goes, I'd really love to see Superman go toe-to-toe with The Abomination.

I'd actually be interested in a Superman VS Judge Dredd or Judge Death.
We've seen how Batman deals with them both, but Superman's stricter morality would be a very intersting contrast with Dredd's definition of Law and Death's maxim that "All crime is committed by the living, therefore Living is a Crime, the sentence is Death."

Good choice, Rob! I hadn't thought of that one.

My guess is that Dredd would still find something to complain about when it comes to Superman, despite Superman's activities being endorsed by law enforcement agencies.

Superman vs. Doom.

That actually happened.. sorta.

It was a Marvel/DC crossover comic in 1981 that had Superman and Spider-Man going up against Dr. Doom and the Parasite.

Wonder Woman and the Hulk also made appearances with Superman taking on the Hulk and Spider-Man fighting Wonder Woman.

That DC/Marvel crossover is my favourite intercompany crossover. I even think it's better than the first Superman/Spider-Man crossover. So much happened in it, but nothing felt rushed, I didn't get the feeling that everything had been crammed in and everything that took place had a purpose (and was exciting).

I think Superman VS Thanos is a good choice, John. In theory, that tale would be epic and would be one of Superman's toughest battles.
