Curious if it was a specific incident to make him go from your adopted character in the X-Men to one you loath now.

Wolverine is like Batman. He must be considered as "the good parts" in
order for the character to work. There is a good, solid character there, but
unfortunately a bunch of featherweight talent whose best ideas are to do "all
the great bits" instead of considering the impact on the character, have
drilled a lot of holes in that character.

I dont' think THIS could be seen as the work of someone who "loathes" or is "uninterested in" the character.

How about altering the question this way.

JB, what incident do you believe caused Wolverine to stop "being" Wolverine?

There is no single incident. It's an accumulation of bad ideas.

In light of what it lead to, Wolverine probably should never have met Mariko.

IMHO Weapon X was the start, Origins was the "final cut"

I think if he could have stayed a mystery with only glimpses of a past, and a member of a team instead of going of solo.  Marvel should probably not have built an empire based on him.

I felt something was amiss when Marvel did the Woverine/Havok mini-series.

For the first time, they gave me exactly what I wanted!

JB, did you have an opinion on the Wolverine solo series up to the point when you did an arc with Archie Goodwin?

BWS' Weapon X was OK because it still kept a ton of mystery about the character.  It didn't show us a whole lot that we hadn't already seen before, just embellishing it a little bit.  ORIGINS was Wolverine's death as far as I'm concerned.  It turned this nifty little berserker character whose history was a cloud, into a character with a defined backstory so ridiculous that it even included a Jean Grey "avatar" to explain why he has always had a crush on her. It also defined another cool character in Sabertooth.  In all instances, it sucked the mystery right out of Wolverine and made him a run-of-the-mill superhero, albeit one that's over 100 years old.  Blech.
