Betty's Halloween costume, by Dan Parent:

And just to run the previous joke into the ground, part of the reason I wanted it was because we had the ultimate intercompany crossover - an Archie character (currently having reprints done by Dark Horse and (I think) IDW, dressed as a Fawcett character now owned by DC named Mary MARVEL!  Who could resist?

That, and I always had a thing for Betty... (Ahem.  Lines on paper, Dave, lines on paper...)

(BTW, I didn't feel like going to Staples to reduce the bigger stuff and settled for my occasionally a tad too small scanner.  So if you see any weird chops, it's probably from that.)

Captain Mar-Vell vs. Adam Warlock by Jim Starlin:

Codename: Assassin by Mike Grell:

For those who don't know who he is, he first appeared in the Showcase wannabe series First Issue Special, notable for having exactly one real success in 13 tries (Warlord) and a perfectly lovely Walt Simonson drawn Dr. Fate issue.  That was also his last appearance for over thirty years, until the Superman crew (James Robinson, mainly) opted to use him in the recent New Krypton storylines.  But my grandmother found the comic at a flea market and gave it to me 20 years ago or so and Grell drew the cover, so it gave me a certain nostalgic tingle.  Oddly enough, I'm NOT the first to ask him for one.  (I think I'm the second, but still...)

This piece also gave me a minor fanboy tingle since he called my cell phone to tell me the piece was done.  "Omigosh, I have Mike Grell leaving ME a voicemail with a dumb Mission: Impossible joke!"

You get your thrills where you can...

And last, but far from least (for me, anyway), a Bob McLeod pic of the soon-to-be-sorely missed Stephanie Brown Batgirl:

Dave - I absolutely love that Starlin piece!  Really knock out!

My next post will be me answering your questions from earlier!

Jason, how did you pull that off?!  I asked JLGL for Cap and he said no.  Got a cute Mary Marvel, but still... :-(

========================================

Dave - It was more luck than anything.  An editor from Garcia-Lopez's earlier days just happened to be sitting next to him when I bought my sketchbook.  Originally Garcia-Lopez said no to Captain America but his old editor convinced him to do it and supplied the reference for me!  I think it is knock out and has to be one of the few time that he had ever drawn Captain America.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And is Amanda Conner doing sketches at conventions again or was this a special thing?

============================

She was doing sketches all show "while you waited".  This one was kind of special as she did it after the show for me.

Like that JG Jones Captain America.  He was working on a Dr. Fate/Spectre piece when I was near his table.  Really good stuff.

=============================

Funny enough that you mention that piece that J.G. was working on.  In the end it was rejected by the customer.  The customer had commissioned a Dr. Fate with J.G. having artistic license to draw it how he pleased.  In the end J.G. decided he wanted The Spectre in the piece as well which caused the customer to reject it since he only wanted Dr. Fate in the piece.  J.G. thought he was doing him a favor by adding a second character and water color for no charge.  In the end the customer got to me a much more plain lightly ink washed Dr. Fate instead of what J.G. had originally done.  For reference here is the piece that was turned down:

Cool stuff, Dave. I'm not a Pat Broderick fan but that is a nice Dr. Strange.

Fred I LOVE that 'Ringo piece! I always make a point of stopping by Matt's table at Baltimore. Great art and the money goes to the Scholarship too.

Fred, neat pieces.

Roger, I love the Terry Moore. I need to get a piece from him.
