Paul:: William, I was seriously thinking of getting that unused JB page. Glad it found the right home.

Thanks! And welcome back!

Thanks, William. Good to be caught up with work and have the ability to waste my life away on the internet again. That real world sucks. ;)

Bill, I'm hoping I can make it to ECCC again next year to hear your story.

Absolutely incredible!  I've loved Hembeck's crowd scenes ever since the Fantastic Four Roast and this piece is amazing!

Thanks, James!  Mr. Hembeck was an absolute joy to work with, and this came out better than I ever expected.

These are the heroes and villains that I grew up with during my childhood (that's me in the bottom left corner), and as you can see, many of them came from the pencil of John Byrne!

Hi Joe - it is a small version of the Marvel Treasury commission.  What is so neat is that the "Hidden Fred" that he seems to include in his commissions is on the back cover!

Kevin, in the words of George Takei: OH MY!!

Fred really nails those crowded covers.

He certainly does, David!  He delivered so much more than I expected.  I mean - where do you begin with a group that includes Fin Fang Foom, It the Living Colussus and Jaxxon the Lepus Carnivorous?  Add in that he was professional and as funny as his cartoon avatar (the e-mails back and forth were hilarious), and it was the best gift I ever bought myself!

Some of the John Byrne items that are found in the piece:

  • Cap vs. Victorius (MTIO #43)
  • Angel, Ice Man, and Hulk vs. Master Mold (Hulk Annual 7)
  • Hercules, Black Widow, and Ghost Rider vs. Swarm (Champions #15)
  • Thor vs. Count Nefaria (Avengers #166)
  • Beast vs. Warstar (X-Men #137)
  • Wolverine vs. Wendigo (X-Men #140)

The rest of the characters are from other favorites (and yes, that includes Richie Rich and Cadbury as Crashman and Rippy) from my childhood.  I must have read these comics (especially the ones by by John Byrne) a thousand times, so seeing them all assembled here was incredibly neat.
