Many thanks to Dave Aikins for letting me know that Joe Kubert's World of Cartooning was offering special sketch editions of his new book Joe Kubert: How to Draw from Life. Sgt. Rock was an easy choice (no pun intended) as my favorite Joe Kubert character, so I placed an order right away. A few short days later, the following sketch arrived tucked inside the book. Joe drew Sgt. Rock in pen and ink on cardboard with chalk (?) for the gun muzzle smoke and the shading on Rock’s face. Incredible!

You're right about the book, Joe. It really gives you a sense of the true breadth and depth of Kubert's talent beyond the comic art that we all know and love.

I think so too, Dave. Not sure, Tarzan, Rock or Enemy Ace? I already have a Kubert Hawkman. Hmmm...Tarzan is my first exposure to Kubert back in the early 70's. The man is so talented.
