Now for Ron Randall. I discovered his art in Arak. I loved Arak when it was around. I asked for an Arak and Ron did a great job. Again, no scanner, photo.

Composite Superman is a great character to use for a theme! Can't wait to see your Composite Superman Byrne commission!*
*Well known around these parts: Greer pushes the con sketches, I push the Byrne commission. Deal with it.

Here's two I picked up for my niece Amanda by artist Colleen Coover. She was great and did a wonderful job. I was only going to get one for my niece, but decided on two. I'm a sucker. Next time I'm getting a sketch for myself.

I've been looking for some Curt Swan art. I love the guy and haven't really found the "piece". I don't know if this is the one, but I do like it. Nice flow, easy to follow and of course Swan. You don't really need to words to follow what is going on. I also love the Super stretching cape. Great price, so I picked it up.

Now, this piece is the prize of the con. A Sergio Aragones sketch. I've known of him my whole reading life. His booth was busy all weekend. Sunday my wife and I walked over and he wasn't there, but his aid was and we talked and looked through the sketchbook and art for sale. This piece caught my wife's eye, but the aid said it was sold. Too bad. Soon Sergio returned and we got to meet him. What a great guy! We'd talked to the aid about the Bone Church in the Czech Republic and thought it'd be a Sergio kind of place. Sergio had been there! Apparently Sergio has been everywhere! What an interesting guy. So after visiting for a bit, no one was around, lucky us, we asked about the sketch. Sergio said the lady who had commissioned it had second thoughts after finding out the price. So Sergio offered it to us at a savings and personalized it for us. Love it. Thanks Sergio!

Great story Brad. I love experiences like this and it is awesome to hear others sharing tales that made the shows for them! Congrats on the art.

Yeah, I have one more coming. Paul's going to pick it up in Chicago. I hope. As for a theme, yeah I think I might get some more. The three guys I asked seemed to respond positively to the request. Not many guys asking for Composite Superman. I think they all did a fantastic job. As for JB, I might ask for one, I have an idea for it. I think JB would knock it out of the ballpark!

There have been many times that I've been blown away by the good fortune that I've had with obtaining stunning pieces of original artwork and none of those many times surpass this piece, which was the first page I ever bought. My best pal was a huge DD fan and I inherited his DD run after losing him to Leukemia, I became obsessed with completing that collection. It was truely an obsession and I had the task of collecting a bit over 100 issues, most of which were the earliest of the run. All this while in graduate school and having the barest of disposable income. After quickly completing that run in 1997, I stumbled across this page. Luckily, it was the early age of ebay and before collecting original art was a craze. This page went unsold at auction, not having met the reserve. I contacted the seller and pounced on it at a price I could *kind of* afford. I hadn't been a huge DD fan prior to Sean's passing, but he became a fave of mine and with that passion, came a true appreciation for Gene Colan's artistic ability. I had it matted and framed early on, well before getting a scanner, but decided it was time to share this gem with others. This one has it all..... a great sense of movement and storytelling as well as alll of the qualities that made Marvel such a leader in the comic industry.... all-out action, the scheming villian and the best friend and girl wondering where Matt Murdock could have gone at such a time!!

Nice set of commissions, Brad!
I wish I had had more time, or more cash, at the ECCC. As it was, got to chat with a number of folk, which is always fun.
Next time I'll bring a wad of bills, and keep Greer away from me.

BTW - Adding a vote for a Composite Superman theme. Great idea!
And I like the way the one Steve did for you came out. Saw the beginning, but didn't stick around for the finish.

Here are my sketches from ECCC.
I have a bunch of little book mock-ups I got from a book publisher I used to work for, and figured collecting signatures/sketches in them was a perfect use for them.
