You've got a point, Kevin. I just commissioned a drawing of Ms. Marvel, but I want the one from the 1977 series, not the one you see all over ebay, etc. So I sent a cover scan just to be safe because I sure the artist gets requests for the 2010 version all the time.

Gotta love Joe Staton. It'll probably never happen, but I'd love to see a Showcase featuring all of his work on Huntress, or some E-Man TPBs. (One of the nicest artists I've ever met, by the way)

Dave Wachter does some beautifully detailed work. I had been extremely fortunate in meeting him at a small con in Reading, PA last March and commissioning him for a piece of art in the past and when I became aware of his offering preorder pieces of art for his upcoming appeance at the 2010 Baltimore Comic Con, I jumped at another chance to get another gem from him. Ben Grimm playing poker with his buddies are some of my favorite character-driven moments from my youth and Dave created another masterpiece! As I was turned onto Hardman through the JFB, I'd encourage collectors here to consider Dave's strengths, maybe searching for his other pieces and discovering what type of stuff you think may fit his style and inquire about commissions. He is a talent.

On the "proofs" question, I generally just say "looks great" and leave it at that. I think there may have been one time I asked for a tweak, but I can't remember what it was. There was one time I agreed to have a commission digitally colored and they got the costume color wrong so I asked for a correction. There has been some back and forth between a few artists, particulary with Don Rosa (all him requesting clarifications on the request), but most of the time I send in my request and get the results back an appropriate interval later.

Dave, I thought that Rosa didn't accept commissions, except for trade.

Catching up on some scanning this evening with a few recent additions to my original art collection. Among them are two pieces that I recently purchased from Alan Davis. I've been a huge fan of his work since Excalibur in the 80s, so it's a thrill to finally own a couple of pages of his original work. Excalibur no. 17 p. 22 by Alan Davis Uncanny X-Men no. 444 p. 12 by Alan Davis Uncanny X-Men no. 168 p. 14 by Paul Smith And an added bonus with Gerry Turnbull's colors of the Chris Giarrusso Fantastic Four no. 243 Cover recreation that I posted last weekend I posted high-resolution scans to my Comic Art Fans (CAF) gallery, so check them out there if you'd like.

Love the Paul Smith page, James. Funny is that I just looked at it on your CAF before logging back on here.

Fred, you're correct about Rosa. Mine cost me an All-American #102. But he's willing to help with the trading - he's the one who pointed me to the eBay auction that had a copy he wanted. (And he let me pop the casing and read it before sending it along so that was nice. :-) )
