Action Comics #860, pg 17
Pencils by Gary Frank, inks by Jon Sibal
Been wanting to get one of these for a while --Gary Frank and Jon Sibal restore the Legion to Superman lore in "Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes".
Great page featuring Timber Wolf, Lightning Lass, Polar Boy, NIght Girl, Dawnstar, Shadow Lass, Colossal Boy, Wildfire, and of course, Superman. I'm a big fan of the Legion of Substitute Heroes, so I especially like Frank's rendition of NIght Girl and Polar Boy.
Gary Frank's work is truly iconic: in my opinion, he's on his way to becoming the next generation of definitive Superman artist. I'm also a big fan of Superboy, so I'm glad to see young Kal-El's history as the inspiration of the Legion back in continuity.

Nice one Lloyd, always like the Legion, just wish they'd put the letters back.

Agreed, Brad--they just look 'right' with the lettering included.

Great piece Mr. White, some really nice work being done, always a thrill to see who got what from who. Now I have a question,,, a friend of mine who knows I'm a Black Widow fan picked this up from that auction site and tossed it my way as a thank you gift (which wasn't expected, but appreciated none the less). It is an inked drawing of the Widow unsigned and an animation scene which doesn't look familiar to me at all. Wondering who did the artwork, or any history on stuff like this would be helpful. With the knowledge on this board, I'm sure someone will chime in with an answer....here are the pictures....

Hey Dave-
What ya got there is the old school way of doing the
"painted color&line art" combo. More then likely for a trading card? If it's a
published piece of art, it's nice that you have the actual inked drawing, as
most examples of this color technique only include the acetate overlay,
which is usually a zerox of the original line art on the clear acetate. the
drawing is then printed in blueline on the illustration board, and then paint
is applied on top of that...
If it's an attempt at an animation style, there would be color/paint on the
back of the Black Widow overlay, and then only background on the art board.
hope that helps!

There is paint on the backside of the acetate, a small piece in the center is a bit tacky, and it just rests on the background scene. looks cool but have no idea as to who the artist would be.
Dave.

If that's the case, there's a huge chance that it could just be something done for fun by someone, as that doesn't tend to be a common technique done for print.

A friend of mine, Jose Holder, who enjoys abstract work, whipped this nice little piece up for me.
