I don't know if all libraries stock that many comic related material but I have the first two Shazam archive editions checked out from my local library.  They have many more like the Flash, Atom, etc.  It's a lot cheaper way to figure out if you really have to own them.

Volume 2 has the first issue of Captain Marvel Adventures by Simon and Kirby.

Wait.  I never knew that Kirby actually got to draw Captain Marvel.  I've never seen that.  Please, does anyone have a pic by chance?

To me, that was always the *magic* of DC comics of the early 70's. They had been around so long, and had so many characters, it seemed possible that "Capt Thunder vs. Universal Monsters" could've happened. Especially with them now trying to catch up with Marvel. Desparate times and all that. Throw in Curt Swan, and WOW!

How can you list the members of the Marvel family and not mention Talky Tawney?

I never knew Simon/Kirby worked on Capt. Marvel!

It's interesting: most of the characters have the Kirby look of the era, except
Capt. and Billy.

I would guess that he was deliberately doing Beck's CM to keep some kind of continuity.  I didn't recognize it as Kirby until I looked at the credits.  Definitely not the Kirby I knew from Marvel.
