Almost happened. If DC had not double-crossed me at the last moment… Ah well. Nothing new there.

That's why I enjoyed Legends so much, JB.  I mean, there was a LOT to enjoy but your take on CM and BB was just too darned good.  Were you slated to do the Shazam mini that came out around that time?  I never like the art on that series even though I bought it out of some kind of loyalty to the character.

Two of my favorite characters during the late 70's/early 80's were the man called Nova and Captain Marvel and both seemed to be in eternal limbo.  Legends was great because it wasn't a flashback or Earth whatever, it was really Captain Marvel hanging out with Superman, Batman, etc.

I can't remember the issue #, but there is a BACKISSUE mag with an interview of JB about the aborted Captain Marvel series, as well as a couple of pages for the first issue.

I think I have that issue, William.

I once saw a comic panel where Captain Marvel knocks out Superman with one punch.  I think it was in an issue of JLA.  Does anyone have an idea of what number it might be?

It was part of the "Crisis Times Five" storyline...It happened in issue 31 or thereabouts.

I love that issue of DC Comics Presents where Superman and Captain Marvel
have switched Earths and costumes, and Superman makes some remark like,
"What's with this stupid little cape?!?"

You know, I have to admit a black Captain Thunder would have really been interesting. Not only would the idea of a most-likely poor black kid turning into a superhero have been intriguing as hell (sort of a cross of SUPERMAN and COOLEY HIGH), but a black man in the awesome red and high white collar looks visually badass.

I have to give Roy Thomas credit, it's a good idea. A solid idea. A black Green Lantern never really intrigued me, but a black Cap Thunder certainly would.
