Seems to me everyone knew about Liberace, but it was a "Don't ask, don't tell" era.

Not how I remember it. My parents and most others we knew basically assumed it was all an act, part of his on stage persona, and he was "normal" at home.

It wasn't a surprise by the time he was outed, but earlier, for most people, it would have been.

Raymond Burr was a real surprise, tho.

I'll say - I never knew Burr was Gay until you just mentioned it.

Why are you sorry Donald? It was good enough for Burr.

Wasn't Rogue "adopted" and raised by Mystique and Destiny?  Meeting a gay person would hardly be shocking to her.

Or was that part not yet shoehorned into continuity?

No, that was after that, Eric. Was it ever established that Mystique and Destiny were lovers, tho? I remember thinking as a kid of Destiny being more of a mother-figure to Mystique. She always looked like an old woman to me. Of course, now I can see where someone would make that connection.

I always thought the same thing. Destiny was a mother/mentor figure. Of course, I think Mystique was eventually revealed to be much older than we were originally led to believe.

Oh, was that instead of Mystique being
Nightcrawler's father?

Destiny/Mystique lovers: The begining of X-treme X-Men by Claremont & Larocca makes it clear.

An old woman with a hot body is all.  The powder blue color and the bee-hive "hairdo" definately have an "old woman" feel to them.
