To borrow a line from "Murder by Death", "I never did nothin' to a man that I wouldn't do to a woman."Being one gender and having sex with the other, under specific circumstances, does not necessarily make someone Gay. No more than being Gay and having sex with a member of the opposite sex automatically "straightens" somebody. It's all about whether or not the individual makes a habit out of switch-hitting. Then it becomes "bisexuality" -- but then we open another door, as there is much debate over whether there is really such a thing as "bisexual". In the last call, the only thing that matters is that nobody is made to do anything they don't want to do.

That's John Buscema art, right?
Anyway, why would a writer be interested in writing the near rape of the Hulk is beyond me. Why Banner didn't change to the Hulk once they started terrorizing him is utter stupidity. Also, the whole scene is really naive in its execution, dialogue etc.
Finally, this scene doesn't makem me think Shooter is homophobic. He comes off a bit pretentious, though. He aims to write an "adult" story, but his writing is child-like it diminishes his intent.

I'm curious, how long did you sit there, working out the logistics for the optimal man-raping experience? Or was it prior consideration, and this bizarre thread just happened to hit the right button?
Rape in any course is about control. I'm being sarcastic upthread but if you stop to consider that most man-rape requires control of the rapee, the more guys the better. I heard the sad sick tale of the hippee guy in the early 70s or something arrested for some kind of demonstration, "accidentally" put into a cell block with a bunch of hardcore criminals, subsequently beaten and raped by over 60 guys in one night. That was his estimation. Saw him interviewed on like "60 minutes" or something. Takes a hell of a man to live with that the rest of his life (personally, I'd spend the rest of my life killing everyone involved, no matter what it took).
In prison, the rapee is "Gay" while the rapists are not. If you allow yourself to be raped, you are a "punk". As such, you stand to be "turned out" again and again, unless you do something about it. Usually this means killing someone. If you aren't capable of doing that, you get a boyfriend who can. Either way, prison is designed specifically as a pecking system. You step foot in prison, you're either a hunter or the hunted.

I'm sure you are right, Chad. I just wonder why most rapes in prison can't be prevented. After all, the inmates are confined and closely guarded.
I mean, I'm all for throwing the book at criminals. But no one should have to experience that.

I think there are several factors why there are not more gay characters out there.
-Most characters have been established for years as not being gay
-Any *new* characters being introduced will either take off or fail, does a creator want to take a chance by making his character gay? No one is going to reject a character for being straight.
-General audiances want to see the hero get the girl, this has been popular for all time and all age groups and what most writers will go with.
this doesn't mean it can't be done but why I think you don't see it more.

For the strong of stomach, many scenarios are presented in HBO's OZ: one the the lead rapist is J. K. Simmons who plays a white supremacist that rapes men fairly frequently but does not consider himself gay.
This is the same guy that plays J. Jonah Jameson in the movies and voices the yellow M&M in the commercials.
Anyway, the warden of the institution, when called out by an assistant for not doing enough to prevent inmate rapes said that "rape has a levelling effect" whatever that means. Apparently, to the warden, inmate rapes are a form of inmate control. It's interesting too that rapes are sometimes commited by correctional officers.
Watching OZ made me think I wasn't so much looking at human being as much as observing human primate behavior.
What is most instructive about the show -- to me anyways -- is that it affords me a glimpse of what it might be like to be a female and to fear being raped. The number of women that have endured some form of forced sexual encounter is phenomenal. In my own work experience, I've had female colleagues that have asked me to escort them down the elevators or to automobile parking and act nervously all the way. Others have confessed to various degrees of forced intercourse, one of which carried out at gunpoint.
In our western society, men feel fairly safe about being raped and so hardly give it a thought. Albanians, from some indications, do not have that peace of mind.

More than their male counterparts, in any case. Probably because very many male writers also like to see the girl "get the girl". (Have mainstream comics even to this day given us anything to match that great big girl-on-girl lip-lock in CAMELOT 3000?)

Coagula is one of my favorite characters . Created by the great Rachel Pollack. Coagula is a transsexual lesbian feminist and was partly named for Chelsea Godwin and transsexual writer Kate Bornstein so she ended up being named KATE GODWIN.

When I was watching the Crying Game, I too felt the hero should get the girl. The girl just happened to come with some excess bagage.

JB, I agree men in general have a double standard when it comes to gay people, real or fictional. Some hetro males seem to have no problem with girl on girl, but head for the hills at the mention of guy on guy.
