The Adam Hughes cover that the statue was based on only showed Canary from the mid-thigh up. If I remember correctly, AH has no input on the Cover Girls of the DC Universe statue line. DC Direct is just basing the design on his covers. So it is the case that someone else designed the boots and did not follow the rest of the design.

Isn't Adam's cover based on a previously existing costume design?

The boots on that Black Canary figure are consistent with the rest of the costume, assuming the character is partying at a fetish club. Heavy boots go with fishnets and PVC in that scene. She's not gonna be kicking anyone in the face, though, unless they're already on their knees.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I hate the modern trend of putting female characters in "work boots." I guess it's an attempt to be "realistic" -- but in a world where characters can lift mountain ranges, a woman performing judo and acrobatics in stilettos isn't much of a stretch.

It'll be a little while until I get her, but I've got that Black Canary sitting at my LCS waiting for me. For whatever flaws they have (Zatanna's lack of fishnets, Black Canary's boots) I find the entire statue series to be stellar so far.
Can't wait for Catwoman, Power Girl, and Harley Quinn!

…a woman performing judo and acrobatics in stilettos isn't much of a stretch.•• In days of yore I pointed to the SOLID GOLD dancers. The stuff they did in high heels made the exploits of most super ladies seem far less unbelievable!

The woman who can scream a villain through a wall can't do kicks in heels - that'd be unrealistic!

It's an extension of the "Batman would have to be crazy to do what he does" thinking that started rotting its way into the thinking process a few decades back.Well, sure, YOU'D have to be crazy to do what Batman does, and I"D have to be crazy to do what Batman does -- but Batman does it because it simply happens to be the natural, sane thing to do in the world he lives in. Which, despite many close parallels, is NOT our world, and should not be played as such. (It's not an "alternate reality" either. It's FICTION.) The people producing the comics these days seem to have largely lost touch with the very real, significant and NECESSARY difference between "realism" and verisimilitude.

Look what arrived today from Diamond's Select line! The likenesses aren't quite exact (or in Uhura's case, not even close) but these seem to be the highest quality Trek figures thus far! I'm pretty pleased overall.
