It is better. Maybe a solution to the blue highlights issue would be to have a midnight blue as the paint? I have a Spider-Man figure that's blue is so dark it looks like black but where the light hits it, you see a hint of blue.

I wonder if...from a camoflage perspective...that blue and white would have made more sense rather than black?•• I don't really recall any instances where the X-Men's costumes were much about camouflage! Plus, recall the SOURCE of this suit!

For anyone who hasn't seen it, here's the debut of the Angel's Adams costume:

Curious-- why didn't they have the highlights colored grey, like the Green Lantern? I think we wouldn't have these slow shifts to blue if they used grey instead.

Often the companies shy away from this seemingly obvious solution for just that reason! Incidentally, the Adams design may hold the record, at least at Marvel, for fastest degeneration of a costume design. By the time the book was canceled, only a few issues after the costume first appeared, it already had a different configuration to the chest/white pattern, and the boots had turned white (as drawn by Sal Buscema), and not long after that it showed up in THE AVENGERS(?) --- blue!

One of the best costume designs ever. Havok's is way up there, too.

I never thought of using grey for highlights on Spider-Man/Angel/Superman's hair etc, though it does make sense they didn't use blue for the Green Lanterns! That would just look silly!

You can barely make it out in this picture, but J'Onn is holding an Oreo...errr... "cream-filled chocolate cookie" in his left hand.
Awesome!

Long have I maintained that the Big Reveal at the end of that issue (That the "Creator" was, in fact, Magneto, showing us his face for the first time) was a surprise to Roy as much as to the readers. Reading that issue with the clarity of hindsight, there is a distinct sense that the pages were being sent in and scripted in a tearing hurry, with no chance to edit or modify dialog already written when later pages arrived. The line "…arms which need mechanical support…" does NOT describe the Creator's "affliction", and his mutates would KNOW that. But I don't think Roy did! Roy says this is not the case, and everything was plotted beforehand, casting Neal pretty much as Art Robot -- a most unlikely role, all things considered!

I don't recall what Adams specifically had to say about this reveal, but he has said that he had more of a hand in these stories than the opening credits suggest (and he didn't say that as a complaint). I can only believe that, since the stories written with Adams on board seemed much more interesting (and exciting!) than those before him, even though Roy Thomas wrote most of the stories.
