Why, Jesse? I like this Hippolyta.

Let's just say I respectfully disagree ... I've always loved JB's idea of making Hippolyta the classic WW, and his design for her was one of his best ... but I'm sorry, I think that this sculpt is just awful, it looks WAY too cartoonish.
I'll commission Jim to make one for me, that will actually look like JB's art.

Actually(!!), to me, this does look like my art. The lips have already
been noted, and look at those no-lower-lid eyes. Pure Byrne!

Again, I'll respectfully disagree, while there are certain aspects of it where I see they captured your art, the overall piece (IMHO) falls horribly short.
Gimme a chance to pull out some old issues, do some research and design something, and we'll regroup later. :)

Since the intent was not to capture my art, how can they be said to
have fallen "horribly short". That's like telling someone who built a boat he
failed because he didn't build an airplane.

I had no idea John Byrne had no idea what John Byrne's art looks like. What you learn!

This is true, I stand corrected with that regard. But, even judging the piece on it's own merits, I still think it could have been done better.

Geez, that's my mantra with DC Direct 95% of the time. Thankfully, Their blandness and odd design decisions save me alot of money...

Well, Chad, if you don't see my style in those eyes, that mouth, that square
jaw and arching eyebrows. . . I wonder what you DO see as my style!?

I agree there is something a little "off" with the Wonder Woman bust (above) but that is a good thing, I think. It does NOT look like Wonder Woman (Diana) which is good since it is supposed to be Hippolyta.
I'd prefer to see a turn-around shot before passing final judgement.

Note the discreetly deleted cleavage in those days of the Comics Code!
----------------------------------
I've heard a story (JB may know if this is true or apocryphal) that Wally Wood was irritated by that censoring of her cleavage, and so he drew her more and more endowed in each issue of All-Star. From perusing the issues, it looks possible. But that's the story I've heard as to how PG as a character ended up so top heavy.
